Rick,Hatfield dragway,Hatfield,Penna--you knew you were at the finish line because of some old ladies clothsline in her back yard---YUP,used to keep a spare motor & tranny in the pick-up---all 1/2 hr. quick changes--not anymore--had to take Momma's new ,fancy car to my buddies shop to get the plugs changed--good lord,he had to take half the motor apart---yep,the Hurst was good for having the Honey snuggled up close :D

Yeah it was the Hurst shifter. About a 2 foot shifter arm that just barely hit the seat on first & third. Loved having girls sit along side of me in the bench seat. Some nights it was a constant shifting cycle. I used to try to hit all of the red lights I could find..........

I used to make it a habit to back on the parking lot cement stoppers. Just let the clutch fly. Sometimes the concrete would fly across the parking lot.
However the tranny was weak as hell. Too light shifting forks. I had it down to a science. In the shop and out with the tranny to the trans shop in 1/2 hour. He used to keep on ready for me !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! Hatfield drags are a long way back in the memory files. When I think back to all the good times at that track,I especially remember the time a dude came in there with a Hemi powered Henry J. He lite it up good, hit second gear and promptly twisted the car over onto its roof. The old Caddy [ex hearse] ambulance roared out and it was all very exciting.Ah what fun you could have on a 1/8th mile dragstrip. That strip has been gone for a million years now.
