Wind? "Not next to my house" No one wants them, they kill the birdies they are noisy and ugly. Off shore wind sounds promising but where are they?
Bio Fuel (corn) tried that, just drove up the price of corn. Fact- If every acre of this country was covered with corn, we still could not meet our gasoline(cars) needs.
Hydro? I heard of plans using ocean tides to produce power years ago. Where are they?
Solar? My kid wrote a school paper on this and it says that a 100x100 sq. mile solar panel in the south west desert would meet this country's power needs. Sounds easy, right?
Nuke power? I think we all understand the problems with that.
I would think with all the options listed plus more, we should be able greatly ease our dependence on oil. What's the problem? sound's easy to me.
Just remember, Almost every thing you own has took a ride on a truck.I just don't see a 40 ton battery powered semi in our future.

All of the above plus oil, plus natural gas, plus coal, plus FUSION. But the Fusion horizon is 25 years off. Fusion produces energy plus one neutron for each tritium and deuterium atom the process fuses. The low level radioactive waste may be a minor disposal problem but is probably manageable. Other drawbacks are the dependence of the reaction on lithium and the availability and containment of the tritium.

If I keep working with electricity, I may stumble upon fusion in my barn at some point ...

Well I have had that experience myself. I managed to fuse my wire cutters together when I cut into a live cable once! I wish I had on some welding glasses at the time!

Ha! That's all I know from a couple articles I have read. Don't count on me!

Some people don't believe fusion is even viable. It's a real containment problem. It is a very interesting read. Check wikipedia first but also google tokamak and ITER.

I've been watching shows about it on the History Channel (or was it Discovery ...?). It would be a dream come true -- a real limitless energy source. Like having your own "sun" ... life would change for the better.

I want to be the one who creates it! Think of the $$$$!!

Back to the barn ...... with this whiskey I have I'm sure I could reach 88 miles per hour!

Palin...yep I'd do her....I would drill baby drill.
palin...Vote for her .....there ain't no friggin way!
Alternative fuels....we are not into the corner yet...once we are look out, all kinds of good and bad ideas will come out of the cracks in the floor.
Bush or Obama...don't mean *censored* when it comes to oil... it comes to each one of us.... how many neighbors did you call to see if they needed anything before you went to the store? We are animals of convince and good or bad thats not going to change until change hits us in the face. Gas at 10 bucks a gallon, yep people are gonna bitch but there still gonna drive for 10 miles for a pack of butts that cost 15 bucks because we are Americans and because we can!

Maybe you can. But I can't and I haven't for some time. I spend $30/wk on gas and I drive as far as that allows me. If that's back and forth to work, then that's all I do.

I hope no one is counting on me to get the economy moving again! :D

Point of interest concerning the price of oil:

Incremental cost of producing a bbl of oil today: $70

Market price of crude oil today: $79

Oil is still a bargain.
