im a picker. I used to play in a rock band, doing covers (70s, 80's, 90's rock stuff). but, im mellowing out in my older age and playing mostly acoustic stuff now. folk, bluegrass, country, alt country, singer songwriter kinda stuff. I play a Larrivee acoustic. also have a Paul Reed Smith and Fender Tele electrics that I still play occasionally

Right on man. I always did like the way Larrivee's sounded. And ill second the kind of tunes you say you play. The older one gets the harder it is to keep up that faster paced rhythm and the more you hear the more your tastes vary.

I play a variety of instruments. I have a Fender acoustic I use for all of my standard tuning stuff and a cheap and heavy Ashland for all my open E work. I also tinker around with the mandolin, piano, and ukulele. I mainly play something close to a bob dylan, The Band, kind of mix with Hendrix or some soul. Kind of every thing I guess. The most fun I have to say was when I played rhythm guitar for a bluegrass band. I used to have a band of my own called Dave Sunday, just me and my best friend playing the djembe. And yea ill have to agree, id love to jam man. Everyone up here that plays is either too young and wants death metal or are too old and want to play three chord country ballads. sheesh..

I "own" guitars, but that doesn't necessarily mean I can "play" them!valley trash wrote:Are there any of you coalaholics out there guitar players? If so what kind of tunes and on what sort of gitfiddle?
But, I do have a certain bond with a guitar I built about two years ago: I also enjoy building tube guitar amps. Out of the several I've done, this is by FAR my favorite, based upon an early 50's Gibson GA-20 circuit which was also very similar to a Supro amp of the same vintage:

Nice, I love tube amps. They accentuate what you play so much better than these digital amps nowadays. Your whole setup looks like its warm as hell. I used to deal with electric guitars when younger but got tired of the money spent on gear and having to use electricity. Love the guitar setup and amp, keep it up, we need more guys like you out there.

Thanks! I don't really market my work, although I did give it a serious thought about 5 years ago to dump my day job for a new career building "boutique" guitar amps. But even back then, there was already a plethora of builders, some just building clones/kits of vintage amps and others building some really unique and progressive designs. Many others have come and gone. Being successful is part talent, part knowing someone who maybe knows someone to get an "in" with an artist, and part dumb luck. I probably could have done well with my manufacturing background, but it's tough to give up a good paying gig with benefits for an unknown entity.yutyoy wrote:i too am a huge Dylan fan. nice taste in music.
and europachris: very nice work. do you sell any of your amps?
LOL, short answer to your question, tho, is that if someone asks (and pays ), I'll build.
