I have a 2000 sq. house and i have burn 1 1/2 tons so far.
This is my first year with coal switching from pellets and glad that i made the switch.
There is no comparison from coal to pellets.

I'm shocked at how much LESS I'm burning this year than last ..... the only change has been the brand of bagged coal.

In 30 days, I used 45 bags ...1,800 lbs! Not even 1 ton! Last year I was close to 2 tons per month in January!

My coal comes from Superior. I had to twist my coal guys arm quite hard in order for him to tell me. He told me he does not give that information out. I guess he doesn't want people to know how much he makes on it. I burn 3-3-1/2 tons per year.

Too much - but that's what I think every year in Mid January as my stock pile dwindles. I have used about 1 ton and have another ton on the lot. My heating season is about half over so I'm right where I should be coal usage wise particularly since we are in the middle of heat wave with 53* outside temps. That's forecasted to extend into next week. I guess I'll hold off on a trip to the coal dealer for a little while longer. Have a great weekend! Lisa

I am about 1.5 tons, but I did burn some wood during the fall when it wasn't too cold outside.

About 1.5 tons using a Hitzer 503 fireplace insert - 1800 sf ranch - fairly well insulated - pretty open floor plan - normally 70 - 74 degrees in most of the house 24/7.

Have an EFM 520 boiler. It's been running for a little over a month. Heating approx 2500sqft with copper finned baseboard and our DHW. So far we have used a 1 ton of coal.
It used more the past 2 weeks when temps really dropped.
Very pleased with the efficiency of this unit.
