The Mark III will burn Bit coal, but it will have the same problems that any hand feed Bituminous fire will or could have: lots of smoke from unburnt volitiles, lots of soot, and often bridging of the fire from the coal's swelling and softening characteristics..
If you have the right coal, it will burn the Bit coal well, with a few adjustments in your expectations. But it won't be as simple or trouble free as burning anthracite.
