Just a reminder...
With the warm weather cleanouts and restarts...
3 screws in each section of stovepipe...
That includes the baro...
Keep a visible flame going and have over the fire air available...
Add the coal slowly...
Helps minimize the dreaded puff back...
The screws keep the pipe together when it does happen...
And it will...
Keep it together...
The DS Basement #4 holds 175# of coal so when filling up in warm weather...
The probability of a puff is high...
It does clean out the stack...

:funny:

Yeah, beer & kipper snacks .... no good ...

Capecoaler has it right .... now is a good time for stove maintenance. I could shut mine down now & still have a 70° house for hours, I bet. Haven't seen the 50's since October.

Took the opportunity to clean the Jotul stoves. I didn't shut them down, just idled them down and cleaned them while they were burning. I always clean them this way. They are now set until spring. This past Saturday was a good day. A neighbor contacted me with an offer to purchase coal he had purchased a number of years ago from a basement. It turned out to be one and a half ton of stove coal. Purchased all of it for fifty dollars. I have one of the Jotul stoves burning the stove coal. It produces white and red ash. Could be a mix of the two types. I'm not going to complain. The temp today peaked in the mid 40's and now we are back down to 32 and falling. We are slated to get a foot of lake affect snow overnight into Tuesday evening. I love the sound of that. I'm hoping for a couple of feet at least.

The snowman.
