Hello,
I'm considering purchasing an old Harman "duel fuel" stove. However, there are two problems (see pics: square hole in bottom portion of back of stove and crack down back center inside firebox). I'm wondering if these 2 issues are worth dealing with? What is the square hole for in the bottom portion of the back of the stove in pictures no. 2, 3? Other than the pics the stove seems to be in great shape. Thanks!

Hello italia899 By the looks of you pics the first two looks like where a blower fan goes to blow the hot air out to the front of stove is there any vents in the front of stove? As for the crack if the stove is plate steel you can just weld it. Also it looks like there are some fire bricks missing. Mybe 2 or 3. IF everything else is good and the price is right way not. well I hope this helps take care
From the pics I can't tell if there are any vents for the air to blow out. I contacted the seller about this.
Any other takers out there as to what else that hole could be? Familar with this old duel fuel models? It looks almost identical to the Harman sf250. Thanks

italia899,
That "hole" you're asking about is inside the tin work in this picture of an older Harman duel fuel and is for intake. This one has a 3 speed fan just inside the box at the rear of the stove which is ducted into the cold air return. This stove has some "ears" on the back to mount the tin work.
This stove has been a work horse for us.

Hello Italia899 I cant tell from the photo but is there a vent on the top stove plate under the lip and did you try to contact Harman they could tell you what year it was made. http://www.harmanstoves.com I know the sf 250 has a second dairy smoke chamber where the fan pulls air in around it to make it burn more clean before it exit out the pipe other then that I do not know what it would before. inless someone tried to put one in themselves. I would try Harman and see what they say.
