whatcha paying for a ton of bagged?

$265 for bagged Kimmels and $280 for bagged Blaschak just a couple of miles up the road at RFC Trucking. The Blaschak is last years stock. They can't get Blaschak anymore since another dealer nearby is selling it.

$265 bagged Blaschak and Reading in Ft. Kent at Pelletier Florist which is about 17 miles away. Both dealers said they are not making much profit.

I'm checking on the current pricing right now. The 279 is' while supplies last', and they are reordering today, so I should know the new price before the end of the day. I have seen the price in Skowhegan at 410 a ton bagged, and I asked if it was necessary to bring a gun to defend myself at that rip-off price. It is a local Aubuchan Hardware, (without mentioning any names). I thought that kind of intimate activity was against the law....ouch!!!
I've purchased in Lebanon.ME before, and found them to be great folks to deal with, but the price seems steep this year for whatever reason. A couple local feed stores and hardware stores are 299/ton, and for this time of year, seems fair.
Oil and propane go up, so does everything else. Some retailers have a conscience and can't screw their friends over.
The folks in PA who produce it are very fair all the time, so why not keep the good feelings going forward?

We're 500 miles from the supply, so transportation sure is a factor.

Down here in central Delaware, there is an Amish fellow selling Blashak, any size, bagged for $250 / ton - or $5.00 / bag. This is better than the $310 / ton delievered I got late last year (sort of - have to figure time to get and 'free unloading' by delivery man).

Yes, he has a gasoline-powered fork lift for putting pallets-full in your truck, not a mule / pulley lift arrangement or ramps and wheel barrows (ouch)

I didn't ask about the seemingly obvious 'break with tradition' since:

1> he also has an answering machine on his phone
2> no evidence of an automobile or truck on the farm where you take delivery.
3> good prices
4> no evidence of power lines into his home
5> didn't want to annoy him since he says he can do better prices in the summer
6> takes checks but not credit cards (no surprise here)

Delivered, 23 tons is about 250-260 a ton.
(Almost a grand for trucking)
If I use 3 or 4, I need to get rid of ~20 tons.
Need a forklift when the truck gets here..
Need to get everyone that "SAID" they would, to actually cough up the cash,
and then come and load their coal onto their truck..
If they own one.... by hand.

From doing charity work, you know that getting people to "Say" they will do something,
to actually DO IT, is a different animal entirely...

Thats true-alot of things can happen between the time you say you want a couple ton-and the truck getting here,as murphys law is always in action! Its going for $300 a ton in Bangor,which is what we usually do,right now we're buying it from Agway here in Skowhegan for $7.00-? a bag or $345 a ton.

I pay about the same as Smitty, delivered. at $290 a ton for Kimmels. He's just a tad further from NEPA than I. When I first started burning coal in Berks county PA it was $110 delivered for Reading pea in bulk. That was 1997-98. Blaschak was $10 more per ton. Those were the days .

Kimmel Pea or nut @ $245 a ton delivered but that was a whole truckload, 22.5tons.

I think a flat $15.00 delivery fee no matter how many ton, two ton minimum...

Your 60# bags per ton =$266.
Our 50# bags per ton = $280.
So, five hunderd and fifty miles, shipping is only $14. per ton...

It was 55/ton and must be more this week due to fuel costs. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

I would doubt they will deliver that far!!! That $15.00 flat fee is per truckload, not per ton on the truck, so its 15 flat if you get 2 ton or 15 flat if you get 4 ton... Not sure what their radius is but I would imagine its not more than 25 miles at that price... They do not 'ship' bagged coal, its pickup only... They only deliver bulk with their high-lifts, tri-axle dumps, or end-dump trailers... They have been in business for a real long time... I live within 1 mile of their yard so its convenient for me to get bags if needed, will be getting 4 ton delivered next week as my indoor bin will be complete and ready for service...

To clarify what has been posted.....
1) This is the Maine Community section....
2) Subject: "wahatcha paying for a ton of bagged?"
3) Our cost per ton bagged in the mid coast is $280. per ton.
4) "Murdoc1" posted that his cost per ton bagged in Pa. is $266.
5) My point is that The bagged cost per ton in Mid Coast, Maine is only $14. per ton more than Murdoc1.
I just hope Smitty can pour me another beer.....
