Caller ID is a great help in screening telemarketing calls. But my method, to stop them from calling, has worked every time. This may not be approprate in this section of the Forum... So, Richard move this to Flame Suit Centeral. :blah:
I only use this if the telemarketing call has called several times. I hate the calls... My wife kept her maiden name and the phone # is in that name, so when they ask for Mr. _____ I tell them in a sad voice that Mr. _____ has passed away. ( This is true. ) Then I ask if they can take the phone # off the call list.
The calls from that number always stop.

How do you stop the Telemarketer?????

I tell them to put me on their do not call list. That usually gets rid of all the really annoying ones.

I usually just ask for their name & then ask to speak to their supervisor seeing that I`m already on a do not call list. I`m normally accidently disconnected & don`t hear from that one again.

One of the greatest joys in life is yelling at telemarketers. It is the greatest stress reliever( well, second greatest stress reliever :) ) that I have found. If it is good, they call right about the time I come in the door. Sometimes they wait a couple hours. I once had this guy from Texas call me back and start yelling at me. I lmao :)

Before all the do not call crap was around I had a home improvement rep. call & say they were doing some work in my area & noticed that my place could use siding. I told him that I`ve been considering it but with work & all I couldn`t do it myself & that I was real interested & made an appointment for the weekend, said I`d be home sunday to watch the steelers game. So to make a sale he came out. He got POed when he said he couldn`t side a brick house, I just asked why he called me if he had already seen the house when they were working in the area. Then I watched the game.

If you have caller ID, don't say a word, just be silent when you pick it up, The computer will quickly disconnect you.
If it is a real person, pretend that you can't hear them. They will raise their voice and all you do is say "is anyone there, I can't hear you. That way they will go nuts trying to figure out if their headset is broken or if the connection is faulty.
If you scream at them, many will scream back (I've heard) :notsure:
If it's a political survey, all gloves are off, the language can be anything you like, and if you throw in a religious reference, that really freaks them out.
Understand that these are only things I have heard, but they sound good. I can hear Stroker Stoker falling off his stool as he reads 'these are only things I've heard'. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!!  :? :)

We've been on the do not call list since PA passed it way before the Federal Government, I might have had a handful of them in the last 10 years.

Yes, the Do not call list is good, also having an unlisted number helps too, we had one for years and never had a problem with telemarkers.

Never sign up for FREE anything on the internet, that usually puts you on ALL the lists.

By Law, if you tell them to put you on the no call list and they do call, you can turn them into the FCC or whomever handles that.

I usually play with them on the phone, and just make up stuff, they get annoyed and usually hang up, especially if you start asking them questions.

I think the worst was the NRA (No offense to anyone that belongs) but they would NOT leave us alone. 2-3 times a day, evening, for 2-3 weeks straight!

The thing is, any NON PROFIT group is exempt from abiding to the DO NOT CALL list.....

I always act like I have tourettes. No offense to any one with tourettes but man is it fun doing that to them on the phone. I usually don't curse because that can sound like "fake" tourettes but I will make loud grunts or yelps or screams in between words. Mostly they hang up, but not all of them. if they start getting annoyed or pissed I up the ante by nonstop noise making grunting as if my stress level is going up! Ahh lifes little moments

Yes, the NRA is a pain, I told them to stop calling.. Even though I'm a Life Member, I still don't want to be solicited for every fundraiser.

Now, the 'fireman's fund for needy children' or the policeman's crippled childrens' fund' well they are all fakes and scams.. don't give 'em the time of day.

The police booster is the worst one. I finally called the police and told them about the two or three times a week harassment from the sloicitors. The calls soon stopped.
