Cold front rolling in

Cold front rolling in

PostBy: markviii On: Thu Jan 28, 2010 7:36 pm

Just watched the local weather, -30 windchills expected tonight with -50 possible from wind gusts. More of the same expected tomorrow. Time to break into my special reserve of stove size.
In my fourth season of burning coal, heating a 100 yr old home with a big hand fed boiler...soon to be a stoker.

Temperature is dropping like a stone here. High of 13 tomorrow and 16 on Saturday. Blowing snow on the roads is making them dangerous.

....and any other form of anti-freeze solution. Smitty will chime in with some Jamaican 181 proof I'll bet.

Very windy here this evening and blinding snow squalls. So much for the warm days this week.
Getting ready for the "Big Chill"......wait a minute, stokers don't need anything extra anyway. Keep enough food/fuel available, and clean up behind them.....that's easy enough.......

I noticed the 10 Mil Bio Boiler got 2 TT live deck loads this PM, so we'll see how the auger and conveyors do tomorrow.
They have two 2 mil btu #4 oil boilers anyway, but the wood has been much more cost effective this winter. I still haven't gotten any pic's........add it to the honey-doo list I guess.

From 33 high to 18 right now. Down to -4 by 6 AM with strong winds. So much for the co=ed naked snowmobile ride tonight.....and tomorrow. (Shrinkage and related issues....)

PS: A VERY good night to open a cabinet door, drip a faucet, etc if you have any potential for freeze-ups.
If you have a Brass Monkey outside I heard it would be cold enough to freeze the nuts off of him, so please bring him in also. Thanks in advance for thinking of our animal friends.  :stretcher:  :funny:

Here is South Western NY along the NY/PA border....

We are already at 8 degrees at 6:30pm, the Moon is out, so it's gonna be COLD!! Stoves are already cranking pretty good. We had numerous White Outs today, with snow and 20-30mph winds! Then the Sun came out...weird day.

Wind chills are below zero too already!! brrrrr :)

Looks like it's going to be almost tropical here compared to up north.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 12. Blustery, with a northwest wind 19 to 22 mph decreasing to between 11 and 14 mph. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph.

Heck of a difference from yesterday & looks like its gonna hang around for awhile too, at least Feb.s a short month & the end of winter is starting to come into sight even if the driving snow is stinging your eyes.

The wind is already roaring here, going to be a long night. My drive home from work was nasty, for a few miles I ran the 4-way's to avoid getting rear-ended. My wife shot this video with her cell phone, doesn't do it justice...at times the phone lines were swinging 4-6 feet up and down.

You guys are too much. I got the mag stoker I picked up a few ago going and have the baro installed. I was having trouble getting it adjusted and could figure out why. I opened the basement door to take out some ashes and the baro opened right up. Apparently I could use a little "drafty."

I've got to vote for Smitty. He's got a creek running through his basement too.
