uploading an mp4 video from a flip camera

uploading an mp4 video from a flip camera

PostBy: titleist1 On: Tue Feb 02, 2010 5:56 pm

Is there a way to convert an mp4 video to something that is acceptable for upload to the forum? We have a flip camera that records video and gets it to the computer easy enough, but it is in mp4 format which cannot be uploaded. (at least that I have figured out so far).

There's directions here for converting but they are pretty basic: Converting Video for Upload

I had tried movie maker but was not able to import the video into it so I could then save it in another format. I'll mess around with it some more, I was just thinking that mp4 wasn't accepted by movie maker either.

I either use windows movie maker or you can download "Any Video Converter". This also allows you to download, change video format, and save youtube video's.

If you're looking for converter I'd suggest Super: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SUPER

Windows Media encoder probably accepts MP4: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... fault.mspx

---------------

The reason I'm asking about the file is I want you to upload it as zip file if it's not too large so I can experiment with it and provide some tutorials on how to use those converters. Silverlight the back-end for the player here supports MP4 so I may just go ahead and see if I can make it really easy. Only trouble there is the size of the files.

Something is really goofy because I cannot even use the Flip software app to open the two video files that I saved in a folder each of two laptops. For some reason the only way I can access them is from the camera memory when the camera is plugged into either laptop and I am running the flip software on that laptop. They are about 5 meg each for about a 10 second clip so I see what you mean about the file size, I know the wmv files would be much smaller.
I must have to learn a little more about the Flip video's and how they are saved/accessed from the app.

5MB is not that big, MP4 is equivalent to WMV. You can achieve the same quality at the same bitrate BUT the .mp4 files produced by the device might have a much higher bitrate. The directions for converting to WMV I provided use a practical bitrate and maintain some decent quality.
