PA House Bill 2041

Fellow coal burners and independents,

I post this to alert you to an upcoming legislative vote taking place February 8th.

House bill 2041 http://www.legis.state.pa.us/CFDOCS/Legis/PN/Public/btCheck.cfm?txtType=HTM&sessYr=2009&sessInd=0&billBody=H&billTyp=B&billNbr=2041&pn=3127is touted as helping the consumers against the unscrupulous acts of tow truck operators.

However what this bill states is that a tow truck operator who would tow your vehicle to his shop for like a dead battery or flat tire is prohibited from getting you to authorize the repairs to that vehicle for at least 24 hours.

If your vehicle was towed due to an accident, this bill would allow your insurance company to come and take your vehicle to another shop or storage facility of their choosing. Most people have their own local repair shop that they deal with. That shop has earned your business due to past dealings with them. If this bill passes, it will be harder and harder for you the consumer to deal with your local people. Independent shops like mine are the only shops that inform the consumer of their rights when dealing with their insurance company. It is for this very reason that the insurance companies have created and sponsored this legislation. They want these vehicles towed to their contracted Direct Repair Facilities who typically install inferior cheap imitation parts and do everything the insurance company wants them to do. Usually at the detriment of the vehicle owner.

Read the proposed bill, and if you agree with me, please contact your legislator and tell them to vote no against this bill.
