I think, less ash too but I haven't been paying real close attention as I am away here and there. The heat seems about the same, me thinks.
Less ash then some and more ash then other's right now running 7.68 to 10.68 % Little buck runs 7.25 to 7.45 less BTU's per lb more fly ash being it is a low white ash coal and not red ash like UAE is

I made the switch to Harmony coal too. Good btu's, low ash and a tad cheaper ;) (also a little dirtier too but not a problem) I was a loyal Superior customer until I burned a ton that I bought early last spring. It was really high ash and just didn't seem to throw the heat that I was used to with Superior's coal. That's when I tried Harmony for the first time and was real happy with their coal. I need to make a coal run soon and I was considering giving Superior a try again. How is there coal running right now? Does Little Buck supply the best coal to Superior?

I had the same" problem" with Superior this year and thought it was my coal guy.Good thing I didn't trash him. He's going down next weekend to get me 5 tons so I to am wondering how the Superior in now.I also noticed the Superior I got last spring didn't have as much red ash in it as it did in the past.Just seemed like a different coal than in the past. Not to bad but not the best either.

Yeah, it's wasn't terrible. Probably still better than some of the junk people suffer with from Reading and other places. But it made me try something new :)

Does Little Buck supply the best coal to Superior
No very little coal coming out of the little buck mine you would not see any change if it stopped going there
The main mines sending coal there is the Owner's own mine B&B and the Orchard mine
they where getting some coal from one of the Surface mine but I believe they stopped buying it do to it not being that good in quality the problem there now is the people that knew how to clean and process the raw mine run coal / Run the breaker are gone or dead the guys running it now are not doing a very good Job in cleaning & Processing the coal also there mixing alot of barley in with the rice coal to get rid of it aswell as pea in the nut which they always did do.

Superior has alot more different vein of coal going threw the breaker so you will have differents from time to time
UAE is only in one vein of coal so the coal pretty much stays the same but the ash content does change it is higher now then it was in the pass in 04 to 07 it eas 6 to 7% ash content now it is 7.5 up to 10% ash content the btus are always up 13.500 per lb give or take a few 100 BTU per lb Remember you can always ask to see the test reports of there coal the do it everyday That goes for any of the breakers

Dirtier because it is a dry breaker for the most part Not a true wet breaker like most other ones are.

Wood'nCoal wrote:The nut coal from UAE Harmony I picked up a few weeks ago for the Mark I is absolutely the best I have ever burned in it. Usually every day or so I have to poke up through the grates after shaking and loosen up the ash, maybe even fish for clinkers. Since starting on this load I have done nothing but shake down the ash and reload, no poking, no problems. The fresh coal takes off like mad. Just amazing.

Thanks to JC, without his advice I would still be "burning" slate and refuse.
By the way it is spelled Harman stove with a A not a O :P I do see alot of people spell it with a o and say it with a o.
Please use the A not the O ;)

I know it's with an "a", I didn't proofread very well, I guess. I look at it every day on the door of the stove.

Several unknown brands of coal from various places: People's in East Stroudsburg, Rabel's (Mid-Valley) in Dickson City, etc. Fair quality.
Worse coal ever was from Fairclough Fuel in Hampton.-unburnable. They sell Reading bagged now, this may have changed, prices are too high.

I have had UAE Harmony before, it is always outstanding, but this is great stuff. Can you tell there's a pattern here? Hint: Deep holes in the ground.
Little Buck is the best stuff I have burned! its like freakin rocket fuel!
Glad to hear that about the little buck, just picked up a ton today and have never burned it before. $130/ton too cheep to pass up. Using hand fired Harman Mk II and nut coal how much air does this "rocket fuel" like?
