Latest update - I need a new grate - will be ordering from Larry next week.
He promises that shaking the ashes will be a breeze instead of a workout.

I need to get a T shirt printed with a Coal Chubby fire view door on it. I am built just like a Coal Chubby and have not been pulling in the chicks like a magnet.
Hey guys,
I've been firing this Chubby and all I have to say is WOW!!! I'm truly impressed with this little stove. The Chubby has been performing so well, that I haven't had my Clayton furnace fired since I started the Chubby. I'm amazed how efficient this guy is. I have cut my anthracite coal consumption way down. The Chubby is using two coal hods of Reading Anthracite a day and two 10 quart pots of water. The heat is very uniform and fresh.
My Clayton furnace would have consumed between 120 lbs and 160 lbs of anthracite a day to provide similar results, but the air would have been much dryer. I also like the fact that the Chubby is cleaner to operate. It doesn't have as much dust during operation as the furnace does. What I mean is that the Clayton would require sometimes shaking to fill two ash pans before recharging could be done, where as the Chubby after the shaking is completed, the ash can stay in the pan until it cools and dumped before the next shake down.
I have never operated or observed another coal stove in operation made today that is as easy and simple to operate with using so little anthracite coal.
So Larry, my hat is off to you for a well designed and super efficient coal stove! Thanks for bringing them back, DOUG

If I were to buy a modern stove, the only one I would consider is one of these Chubby stoves. It is the only one that is designed like its forebearers and for good reason. The upright, round shape lends itself to proper coal burning. According to the once will known (now forgotten) formula: a proper coal stove must have a combustion chamber of at least twice the length of the firepot width for good combustion. Larry Trainer also seems to be a first rate Gentleman by all accounts.
I wish you many years of happy heating with your Chubby and the best of fortune to Larry Trainer if he decides to start manufacturing Chubbies again. (Maybe he'll make a nice nickel trim package for a deluxe model complete with an attractive finial to top it off with.) Then it would be hard to tell it from some of the old ones.
