WHEC-TVIf you had a few beers on Super Bowl Sunday, there's some good news for you. It appears beer could help make your bones stronger.
New research suggests that beer is a significant source of dietary silicon -- which increases bone mineral density.
A University of California-Davis study examined brewing styles and raw materials of beer to see where the silicon comes from and how much makes it into the final product.
The highest levels of silicon were found in hops and in the husk of the barley -- so beers with greater amounts of barley and hops had the biggest bone benefit.
There is bad news though for regular soda drinkers. New research suggests regular consumption of soft drinks could increase the risk of pancreatic cancer.
A study from the University of Minnesota followed over 60,000 Singapore residents for 14 years.
Those who consumed two or more soft drinks a week were 87-percent more likely to be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer than those who never drank sodas.
They believe high levels of sugar in soft drinks increase insulin levels in the body -- which contributes to pancreatic cancer cell growth.
Not like we needed another excuse....

Good times! It's contagious too -- during that sad time in the mid 90's when 80's music was "un-cool", I still listened to all of that decade. My buddies used to laugh at me -- I was "the 80's guy"!
