a much much bigger picture would help a lot

do you know how big the coal pieces measure. that would help out.

No, some of it looks kinda big, you can get a feel by comparing it to the concrete blocks the wall is built with. This person is willing to move it to my house for a price, he dose not know what kind of coal it is.

He thinks its 6 cubic yards, I don't know... I need to answer him soon so thats why I am asking you guys..

Hard to tell in that pic, a nice close up of some individual pieces and measurements of the pile would help. My guess is bituminous and around 2 tons.

looks like a couple of tons of stove coal. Doesn't look like anthracite unless it's very dusty.

See if you can get a few 5 gallon buckets full and give it a try in your stove. There's no fire sale on this jazz,Grumps. If this guy wants it gone,he'll work with you. Hire a kid to work along side of you if this heap ends up being what you want. It sure looks like Bit to me. if this guy gives you a song and dance, then tell him you've got a pile salvaged from the sea floor when the Titanic spilled her guts, and your just going to burn that.

Look at it this way,Grumps...Brittany Speers is dirty, yet alot of guys seem to like her....It's all in the eyes of the CoalHolder! I'd always go with Anth and forget about the supposed massive savings of lower cost bit. Ever see spontaneous combustion?,I did on an ungroomed large pile of Bit. The Titanic had a fire going in her hold when she got underway. A bunch of volatiles,is pretty messy(like Brittany),smells bad and smokes a bunch(like...oops I did it again)....Also,I'm thinkin' that the Poconoeagle taught Johny Carson (aka "The Great Karnak") all his tricks......You can make book that the tonnage is accurate ! :P

If it is bit there is a possibility it won't burn very if it has been in that coal bin a long time. Anthracite doesn't change much or at all with age but bit can.
