The nut bin looked to be completely full. Well i guess it is nut. It was the last bin to the right if you are facing the piles of coal. i think it goes from left to right ... rice, buck, pea, nut if im not mistaken. Rice was completely full buck maybe half or less pea almost empty and nut if thats right was almost completely full as well. I always call before i go. I think its a good idea to do so. Although the information you get (as i found out) can be wrong. There are other breakers in the area if they are out of what you want. Im sure coalburner could give you the information on the other local breakers.

I look at it this way. I had approx 700 extra pounds evenly distributed throughout my car. trunk to the back seat to the front passenger seat. My car can hold five passengers and has five seat belts. Ao if you assume i am carrying 4 extra passengers (and i have before) they only need to weigh 175 each to equal the amount of coal i was carrying. I dont think it is anything my car cant handle. i would put more weight in it if i could fit more. I would think your truck should be able to hold at least 1,000 pounds. I wish to god i could afford a truck and a trailer. It sucks having to make three trips just to pickup a little over a ton of coal. But i do what is necessary for my family. Those three trips only cost me about 12-13 dollars in gas for all three plus my time, but since im laid off i have lots of free time so that doest matter right now. I would love to be able to get 2 - 3 ton on a trailer and only make 4-6 trips a year depending on the trailer, but for 150 a ton you cant go wrong. the trip takes me about 33 minutes one way on avg. i could get coal delivered, but id have to pay about 190 a ton. We dont have much money so i do what i can and with those 3 trips i only pay about 163 a ton with gas money figured in. so to me it is worth it. Not to mention that the coal from harmony is so much better then the *censored* my local place has.

I passed about 4 cops during my three trips from the breaker. not to mention that i pass the state police station each way when i go to mt carmel for the coal. The cops never gave me a second look. Nor should they. I am not overloaded. I could carry more coal if i had the room. If i did get pulled over i would probably tell them to suck a nut, as its no different then having 3-4 passengers in my car.

wow that's funny because my mom named me after a soap opera actor too. she told me before but i cant remember which but ill find out. i can actually get 3/4 a ton on the toyota but i never like to overload nor run it hard. it was kind of my dream truck since childhood so i take the best care or it i can. i will be up there within two weeks and then well see what i can haul!!

Each trip i was able to get about 700 pounds. 680 first trip 720 second trip and 720 third trip.

i took some pics with my cell phone.

So over all i loaded 57 buckets of coal in my car today and my back is a little sore.

Them ladies up at Harmony know more about coal then half the People on here The 3 tons of pea came down from the top of the mountain off the pile that is all they had left up there when you called in the morning the pea bin was empty
they refill the bins threw out the day

jc, i wasnt taking a dig or knocking the lady. she told me they didnt have ne pea left and werent making more till it got warmer. so i doubt they brought more down. she probably figured the rest of the remaining pea was sold. i wish i knew as much as the people at harmony know about coal. no disrespect was ment in any way

Naw...You are an A-1 Harmony Man...Can't see 'ya takin' shots,digs or dishing the disrespect. I never met 'em,but I've got to figure those ladies are a big part of what makes "The Run" to Harmony so good. Now,about the Sunfire...Maybe it ought to become the Coalfire. Tear out the seats. Shovel it in direct. We'll figure out how to unload it smartly in the next couple of posts. God only knows.......

There was 3.5 tons left up and the top pile they bought it down and put it into the bin don't doubt them or me

No need to put buckets on the roof. Remove the front passenger seat, rear seat and add a couple of custom cut sheets to the floor and right door panel on the inside to protect it.

USE YOUR SUNROOF TO LOAD IT

In fact you could use some plywood to make a chute big enough for the loader to load it !!!!


Why do I have to think of solutions all the time. Geez !!!!

I forgot about the sunroof.....A Masterpiece,Rick! Shield off the drivers seat and floor area and load......Now,to unload it as easy??...Trapdoors or slider plates unloading on the move onto a runner tarp? Use the railcar unloader and do a clamp and roll upside down?.....Gotta give his back a break...

Either a trap door or open the passenger side door and tip it over. After all it's only a sunfire......can't weigh too much.

If it is, hook up a come-a-long to the side of the house to help.

Of course, Brock would have to shovel a bit more snow from the side yard. But it would be well worth it. Think of the time savings. Besides it wouldn't be any tougher on his back or shoulders.

I made another trip out to harmony today for some more pea coal. Picked up another 720 lbs in the Pontiac "coalfire"

just a couple pics, and when i was there i asked the nice ladies at the window if they had a list of coal delivery guys and they gave me a paper with some names on it. Thought id share it with everyone.

i still admire your dedication. times like this we do what we have to

because i bet they want at least 180 a ton delivered, or more. I could be wrong, ill have to call and find out.

I only pay about 163 a ton when i factor in gas money. So if any of the delivery guys can do it for under 170 a ton then ill let them deliver it for me. Plus im unemployed right now and have some free time. i sort of like the drive to harmony, just not all of the work associated with it. I also like saving money

A few minutes with a cutting torch will make the CoalFire a true top-loader.
