(CNN) -- Capt. Phil Harris of the Discovery Channel show "The Deadliest Catch" died Tuesday of complications from a stroke suffered late last month. He was 53.

Harris, the tattooed and gruff captain of the Cornelia Marie, was a fan favorite in the reality show about crab fishing off Alaska.

I love this show. Didn't he have a small stroke last season? He drank a lot Red Bull and smoked like a chimney.

Aw that sucks. I liked that guy. Great show.

I think this was due to that one he had last season.

Crud, I'll miss that gruff bastard.
Yeah, he had a blood clot migrate from his leg to his lungs a couple years back. He bulled thru that, though.

His boat was one of the top money makers. I wonder if his two sons will take over?

Yeah, but he kept right on drinkin' coffee, smokin', and generally ignoring everything else he should have done after that little scare he had.

But I suppose he would rather be dead (and smokin' right until he dropped) rather than alive, chewing on Nicorettes, and drinking Sanka.

I followed that show often. Phil was cool. He'll be missed by that group.

I'm not sure he owned the Cornelia Marie. Narrarator "Mike Roe" durning the shows never makes any statements connecting Phil to ownership of the boat as he does with Sid & the Northwestern or Keith on his boat or Capt Andy and his family's boat..

Yep, Phil owned his. He bought it about 10 years ago. Probably had a bank note on it, though. Not sure.
