That's not a bad price for the stove, blower fans are available, and they may just need some wiring and lubrication.. Those are nice stoves. If it is nearby, I'd go take a look at it at least. If it was near me, I'd go for it, if it would fit in my remaining fireplace.. I'd have it as a backup heater for power outages.

I may be wrong here but, if I'm not mistaking, the blowers didn't come on until the insert reached a certain temperature. And it seemed like the insert temp had to be right up there before the fans would come on. I have the gut feeling this guy picked up the insert only to re-sell it. He might have tested the fans, and thought they didn't work. May not need re-wiring at all. A few years or so ago, a neighbor down the road bought a brand new HITZER insert. I believe it was the 983 model. And If I'm not mistaking, that's how his was. So YES, sounds like a good deal. However, I would turn the blower fan by hand first. If setting around, the fans may be sticking some. A drop or two of oil, and a few turns by hand should loosen it back up. I had that experience the second year heating with my 50-93. After that first time, every year I give it a shot of oil, and turn the fan by hand before I fire up the stove for the season.smokeyCityTeacher wrote:I sw this ad

My Pine Barren Patrician started out as an insert. The gentleman I bought it from welded legs on the bottom and welded a 6 inch collar for stove pipe on the top and turned it into a free standing stove. It also has blowers and they are set to come on when the stove reaches a certain temp. If you just plug the stove in to the wall cold and expect to hear the blowers running it won't happen and if you don't know any better you would think they are dead. Once the stove comes up to temperature they blow like crazy. The stove you are considering could turn out to be a great deal if you are willing to give it a shot. One more thing not to overlook is the fact that if the seller thinks the stove is broken he may even be more negotiable on the price.
Good luck,
John
