Don't you know that Global Warming is causing all this snow?
Global warming advocates feel under attack as skeptics use the record-setting snowstorms -- and the recent discoveries of errors in the U.N.'s climate science study, a growing scandal called climate-gate -- to question the theory that climate change is a manmade problem.

Romm explains that cold weather doesn't cause snow. What brings the flakes down is a combination of cold and precipitation. And since warmer air holds more moisture, global warming and heavy snowfall can coexist, so long as temperatures keeping dipping below 32 degrees.

Denying global warming is a lot like denying gravity. You can say you don't believe in gravity, but you're still gonna fall if you jump out a window.

The "lefties" as you affectionately call them, are merely responding to those who claim the storms disprove the global warming "Theory." They do not. In fact, they're very much consistent with it. Storms with increased intensity and regularity are among the predictions in a 2003 Pentagon study, among dozens if not hundreds of other studies. By-product of a higher concentration of moisture in the atmosphere.

There really is not a debate. There's a global warming "debate" the same way there's a "debate" about whether the moon landing actually happened. Sure, there's some fringe theories that suggest it's not real, but they are easily dis-proven and dismissed by "Real" scientists.

Well then Kevin, I guess you won't be needing your Alaska Stove anymore. Why don't you put it up for sale here? You can give the proceeds to Al Gore. I'm glad you're so convinced. However, if you're so convinced, why do you feel a need to retaliate against those of us that disagree? Fringe group? How many does that consist of? Five, ten Professor Frink types? Well, only seven years left before it's too late and AGW turns Earth into a boiling crucible like Venus.

Denying Global Warming is a lot like denying gravity? There is a complete and total consensus on gravity, it's unequivocally proven. And I don't know of any tax schemes tied to "gravity".

The Joseph Joubert quote that appears at the bottom of each of your posts is the exact reason I feel it necessary to discuss things with the opposition. There was another quote I think it was Voltaire, that went something like "In political discussion, you cannot hope to change your opponents mind. You can only hope to increase understanding among all participants." Paraphrased of course.

The problem with global warming deniers that makes it impossible for me to leave the discussion alone is simply this: There is no debate. Climate change is not a theory. It's _really_ happening. Sure, there's _some_ debate about what, if any, role man's activities play in this conundrum, but that aspect has by in large been settled science for years.

So, let us increase each other's understanding. Instead of taking my statements and running away with them, responding with outlandish exaggerations of how you perceive my viewpoint, why don't you tell me exactly where you are on the issue? What do you think is happening or not happening, and what, if anything should we be doing in response to it?

Global warming or climate change ... or whatever the hell they decide to call it this week is just a ploy to grab all your hard earned money! It's worked so well with auto emissions, they figure they'll apply it to all aspects of life. 95% of the thousands of dollars in repairs I had to make to my wifes SUV are all emission related -- NOT ONE of those systems is needed for ANYTHING ELSE! USELESS BULLSHIT to make me poorer!!

If you enjoy paying out the ass for everything, then keep riding the AL GORE express!

IT'S HORSESHIT - plain & simple. Take a look out your window - don't believe everything you hear.

Kevin H,I believe the issue is Man-Made Global Warming, and the Theory of Man-Made control and regression of it. One large volcanic eruption, undersea continuous methane pocket breaks and frozen methane melt removes our hands off the wheel of supposed control. "Lefties" dramatically supporting the drumbeat of Al Gore further lends discredit to any attempt to reasonably stop acting like pigs, perform reasonable stewardship of our lands.lakes and seas and still have jobs for Americans. Al Gore equals un-scientific vomit. I will live my life in defiance of all things politically correct. Right now,the flavor of the era is Man-Made Global Warming and the Eradication of our Human Race, for WE are a pox upon the Planet. I'm not buying, and like you, believe in Coal......Take Care.....

I'm talking about Anthropogenic Global Warming. I don't deny global climate change. I'm living on top of the terminal morraine from where the mile thick glaciers receded after the last ice age.

You throw out a line like that, I interpret it as a negation of my belief about the subject. I do not concur that it is settled science. In other words, a lot more provocative than rational. So if you want to fight, just say let's fight. Don't throw a sucker punch and then act indignant when you get one back.

It doesn`t matter if its natural (which I believe) or man made, we have to do everything we can to get off the oil dependence & take care of the earth, its the only one we have.

Disagreed,Sam...I don't support Economic and Family Suicide, let alone the failure of our Country's Sovereignty to support Theories from Liberals. The Chinese and Mexican industrial Fronts would laugh in your face and then slit your throat for even suggesting that they stop their non-EPA fueled manufacturing boom in the name of the only planet we have. I do not believe in one world. I believe in our Country.

I believe in our country also, & thats the only one that we as a country can hope to become less oil dependent. The problem is we have to share the earth. All we would have to do with the Chinese & Mexican industries is to rebuild our own & reduce our dependence on their crap, China is already heading in a more responsible policy( believe it or not) & mexico is largely the U.S. big business exploiting their people with the blessing of their government as long as big business continues to pay off.

OK, lets see what, if anything, we _ALL_ agree on.

1. Are we merely discussing the cause(s) of climate change, or is there anyone among us who believes it is just plain not happening? If anyone believes it is not happening at all, we should respect your opinion but I'd like to know what it's based on. I'd also inform you, as cautiously and respectfully as possible, that you are in an extreme fringe minority.

2. Do we all agree that the snow storms are _Not_ evidence _Against_ climate change? I'm not asking if they _are_ evidence _of_ climate change, just seeing if anyone believes they are evidence that in some way disproves it.

3. Do we all agree that additional carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, whether natural or man-made, increases the global mean temperature? If there is any evidence against this, I'd like to see it. I AM NOT being a wise a$s, I genuinely want to see and analyze for myself if there is any such evidence.

4. Do we all agree that global warming is automatically bad for humanity? (Not every scientist does; This is among the things that they are debating amongst themselves).

5. Can I safely say that this is not new information, that it's been around for years? I'm 27 and I learned about global warming and the greenhouse effect in 3rd grade, long before anyone ever heard of Al Gore much less had seen his documentary.

I am not an ideologue, I realize that I'm likely outnumbered here on a board entirely dedicated to people who burn coal. I realize I may also be called a hypocrite for burning it myself. All I can do is try to be just as respectful as possible to other members and hope the favor is returned. I truly am trying to get a consensus and figure out just exactly what it is that we're arguing about.

Kevin,

Trying to find a "consensus" is an exercise in futility.
Global warming has demonstrated, the degree to which it is occurring, and mankind's influence varies by information source.
What humankind can or should do about it and the degree to which it might be reversed or slowed is open to debate.
Some proposals espoused today would make life more difficult, than can be justified by a supposed environmental effect.
The effort placed into this, perhaps fruitless, crusade can better be used to help feed and house the poor and ill of the world.
Al Gore is a reprehensible opportunist, seeking only self aggrandizement. His imperious attitude makes him all the more odious.
