Bank runs are starting in Greece, as the Euro falls apart there may be a temporary flight to the USD.

Gold has replaced every fiat currency for the past 3000 years.

1st reply: humorous
2nd reply: philosophical
3rd reply: panic

Now I heard the FDIC is billions in debt. I have a life savings in a small bank, I don't want to pull the trigger on gold. I have been worried about this for quite some time myself. I wonder if buying land even makes sense.

Gold wasn`t bad years ago, now its at all time highs, & even if you have it what are you going to do with it. Not too many places trade anything but worthless money for gold. Be kinda hard to take a gold coin to the supermarket to buy groceries.

My gut reaction to the video is that the warnings have substance. I also get the feeling that I am being led into buying gold.
It would be interesting to see know if the inflation watchdog group (i forgot its name) makes money from gold sales form the companies they ranks as dealers of gold.

Even though my "am I being manipulated" manipul-ometer reads a slight tickle - I still think the things they are warning about are in fact very real and we could see a collapse of our country in our lifetime.

I propose that anthracite coal be the new store of value. At least we can burn it if it loses its "value".

I'm thinking the same thing. There must be a motive for everyone pushing the sale of gold now ...... maybe it's the fed unloading their stockpiles? :gee: :?: Who knows.

Even if the value of a buck goes to nothing, it will still be traded locally ... so it will always be worth something to somebody in the event of a worst-case. May not be worth much, but still not zero.

If I start getting bad vibes about the economy, I will open my own bank account the way my grandparents did during the depression -- with a shovel, in an undisclosed location.

I just got back from the supermarket. There's another storm coming, but I was there at 2PM, and the good sale items were SOLD OUT. I have never seen empty shelves before. I dropped 30% more due to this.
I painted a house with my partner years ago. We had access to the place, the owners were Mormons and they were in Utah. The house had a walk-in basement. In that basement were at least a hundred five-gallon plastic food pails, filled with raw whole wheat kernels. I feel like I should at least hoard a couple 25lb. bags of rice.
I heard that the way they, whoever they is, control the population is to keep them fearful and demoralized.
Even my liberal college student friend is coming around, he remarked on how ineffective and disfunctional the government is.
I am scared the dollar will collapse and my life savings will vanish.

Robert Prechter says the coming problem isn't inflation but deflation:

Who knows? Hedge your bet: buy some gold/silver, stash some cash, hoard some canned and dried goods, ammo and fuel.

The thing is, you can stash away a few things for a short-lived depression but in our current economy we rely on each other for survival. We perish without trust and moral values.

Enron should have taught everyone about putting all your eggs in one basket. It would not hurt to have 10-15 % in gold and silver. Just in case. Ammo and medical supplies won't hurt either.

Argentina is a recent example of what happens when the currency falls through the floor.

Do Main Street's 95 million investors know something Warren Buffett's long-time partner, Charlie Munger, doesn't know? Munger is warning us "It's Over" for America. Yes, "o-v-e-r," America's in decline, at the end-of-days, coming to "financial ruin," says Munger.

Too bad this punch line of this parable is a ludicrous simplification/fallicy of Obama being the messiah and republicans being the devil.
