maybe a different batch of coal. My wife thinks I am crazy, but I can tell the difference between the different tons of coal that I got at UAE, just seems to be a size or a slight color difference. I store my coal in cardboard gaylords, when I get close to empting a gaylord, I always have an issue with the smaller pieces of coal and the "dust" that comes with the bottom of the gaylord, I am assuming it is even the same with any coal bin.

You were probably firing the stove hotter in the cold weather, and may have been creating clinkers.
