When we get the census package in the mail can we just list how many people live at our residence and send it back and not give out any other information

The man brings up a lot of good points, I`m guessing the only thing required is the number of people living in the house.

In simpler times, in the earliest censuses in Europe, the household was counted in two categories:
1 - Men
2 - Women and livestock

Edit : Realized this wasn't general discussion.

Look, the recent news about .gov wanting to triangulate your position using your cell phone without a court order and last years visits by the Census sub contractors with GPS mappers should make you ponder it a while.

Sinister or innocent, depending on your point of view. My view is, innocent as far as the census bureau goes.

Now, tracking us with cell-phone triangulation without a court order, that bothers me. I wonder, if the cops want to put a tail on you, does THAT require a court order? It's much the same thing, just a different method being used....

Then there is the controversy about license-plate-reading cameras. Installed around the city, they can easily compile a database of who drives where, and when. Police say the cameras will only be used for "legitimate" purposes, and I'm sure there are many legitimate purposes. But being trackable so easily also bothers me. By the way, for you ACLU bashers, it is the state chapter of the ACLU that is raising objections to uncontrolled use of the cameras here.

Probably because minorities are being "targeted"

Don`t go pickin on minorities, whats a guy to do, the welfare check used to get a whole car full of stuff, now with all them cameras everywhere you can only pick up a few small items & have to buy the rest.

I was the minority where I lived for ten years. I'm sure my census form will be delivered to that address. If you want to understand the plight of minorities in the USA, just wait 50 years. Al Quada will have to pick another enemy, since they have nothing against south america.

I for one don't really trust hardly anyone in the government and the ones I might, about grain of salt's worth. But the one thing about the census for what it is worth to me was to find out stuff about my family, doing a family tree thing a bit ago and came across the 1930 Census made for some interesting reading... Maybe 50 years or so from now my grand kids might be supprised what they find
