For as long as there have been Gov.s they have been borrowing from one another & bailing one another out. The U.S. has forgiven more debt than any other on the planet, I believe that it was Poland that Reagan bailed out after their system failed if memory serves me right. I know we`ve done similar with most others Brazil, France, Spain most likely all including China. There`s no real value to any countries common money anymore its all just promisory notes.

This really angers me.. cause I've been learning Spanish so I can call my next president Jefe' and now I find out that I must learn Chinese.

Indications are that the Chinese have already slowed down on loaning us money (buying our treasury bills) because they see our dollar slipping and know we will not be able to redeem them
They also have begun to make intimations that if we continue to arm Taiwan there will be financial consequences to pay.

Other than calling in all the mature bills to break our dollar - they could sell those bills to other nations at a highly discounted rate to cut their losses and then let the U.S be at the mercy of natioons that we would rather NOT want to be in the position to own our lans, buildings and cities.

If China were to sell that debt to the wrong people - it could have devastating consequenses.

Japan already owns more land in this country that most people would believe.

http://www.ustreas.gov/tic/mfh.txt This data needs to be updated because recently China and Japan have switched positions but it gives you the general idea. People keep saying we are the richest nation in the world so we should be able to afford to spend on their favorite program of the day. Why is it we are the biggest debtor nation in the world? We need to wake up to the reality we are like spoiled children living beyond our means!

While the U.S. is second only to the swiss among industrialized nations with most of the nations wealth being held by the top 10% we are #1 in the amount of population living in poverty. Those numbers were during the Reagan years I don`t believe they have changed much, at least not for the better.

There you go again. You lose credibility each time you put out these absurd blanket statements. You sound like an America hater. You must be retired with nothing better to do than degrade these otherwise worthwhile conversations.

I`ll even help you out, industrailized not least developed, there is a difference, if you need any further assistance just let me know.
Almost forgot this absurb blanket statement was not mine it came from a article written by Dr. Michael I. Niman who has PHDs in American & Intercultural studies, I don`t just throw a blanket statement out there to disrupt you.

Here,
Maybe you can comprehend a picture. I'm certain you'll find a way to continue to disrespect the USA and the traditional values most of us stand for.

Almost half the world — over three billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day.

Of course, you'll prove me wrong, maybe you got your facts here:

Lisa Ellibe lives in Pennsylvania, where the childhood poverty rate is 18.4 percent. She lives in a shelter with her 15-month-old baby, but it does not provide meals. The World Socialist Web Site spoke to Lisa at a soup kitchen in McKeesport, Pennsylvania where she had come to pick up food for herself and her baby. Lisa's daughter is one of the four million US children in families, mostly headed by single woman, who are living on less than $7,000 a year.

So if you want to be right, you're right! Thanks for bashing the USA again.

How is stating a fact, which you apparently did some research on be bashing America? If I would ignore this fact does that make it go away & make me more of an American (which by the way I believe saying that I disrespect America is totally uncalled for), you still seem to have a problem with the difference between industrialized nations & impoverished ones but not being a teacher I don`t know how to convey that to you. Its odd that you picked an example from McKeesport, Pa., its the last place I lived before moving here. It is a large town, poorly run like alot that I know of & I`m sure you do as well. My wife was a ER nurse at McKeesport Hospital for 30+ years & has seen it all. In my opinion those type problems are also going to need to be addressed also we can`t continue throwing good money after bad but thats another subject. I guess you believe that our nations own poverty is not something to be ashamed off & we should put blinders on, don`t mean to offend anyone with my pointing this out but the sad fact is its real.

If ignorant people wouldn't multiply like rabbits, then maybe there wouldn't be a need for socialized medicine. You pointed out the nation's child poverty rate so you could bash and blame a former president. You still can't figure out why you infuriate people.

I didn`t bash or blame any former President, its bigger than any one political era. Again perhaps I didn`t explain myself clearly enough, the study I referred to was done during the Reagan years (I guess thats what your referring to) I did not say that it was not there before him, I said that I sure don`t think it has gotten better, there have been other Presidents since that time as well as before. I`m just trying to have a civil discussion here, not trying to infuriate any one, again point out some facts that prove otherwise & it will be all well & good, thats way they are called discussions, debates or opinions etc. its all different points of view, freedom of speech.
I`m more than willing to end this right here & now, no offense meant nor taken.
