A federal appeals court has ruled that the two phrases will stay.

Its a shame that something like that ever had to go to court, some people have too much money & time to try to impose their will on the country, they should just leave if they don`t like things the way they are.

That's the problem - "Under god" was added 50+ years after the Pledge was written.

It's the religious activists/crusaders who are trying to impose their will on the country with this garbage.

Your right in that it was officially added in1954 by Ike & was accepted until someone came along & decided that he didn`t want it there, well boo hoo I`m sure there are a lot of things in this world that you , myself & others might not like but thats life get over it & get on, theres more important things in everyday life. I do think if it were put up for a vote it would win by a wide margin.

Where do we draw the line with "get over it & get on" - better idea, let the religious political groups "get over it" and stop trying to force their agenda down our collective throats. There's constant bleating from the right about "activist judges" and the left trying to "reinterpret the Constitution", so I say what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

We pretty much did have a local vote on it in my area, not like Long Island, but a small rural town that has maybe 5 or 10 people show up for a Town Meeting,a lady from Jersey City thought that the pledge that we say at the start of each meeting was infringing on her own personal beliefs--there was discussion & it was decided that it's basis was as much Spiritual as it was religiuos& if she felt uncomfortable saying the pledge,by all means don't--she took it one step further & decided she would not stand while the pledge was being said--she was asked not to return to any more Town meetings until she evaluated wether it was God she had a problem with or our Flag--sorry ,I did two tours over to the Nam & if you disrespect my Flag, you're real close to having my boot in your A$$ Soooo, once again, get over it and get on :)

Right! Just like Jesus would have advised! "Love thine neighbor except when he aggravates thee, then pound the sh*t out of him. Do this in my name." I believe those were his exact words.

I don't think "In God We Trust" does a lot of harm. We don't really believe it anyway. God is a pretty unreliable buddy, or we would have no need of medicines, guns for self-defense, or standing armies.

The Internet telleth me that "Love thine neighbor" is written in Leviticus 19:18. And that some versions have it, "Love thy neighbor and hate thine enemy" which seemeth to confuse the issue even more. Have it thine own way.
