Good morning! Today's coffee is being served from the tailgate of a Prius. Come to find out they make a pretty good shelf and all those batteries will brew a bunch of coffee even with the engine off. Fill your cup up and stay behind the vehicle please, we don't want anyone hurt if the thing decides to take itself for a ride. ;)

Another darn beautiful week here. Frost every night, but each day was sunny and into the 40's. I can't ever remember no snow on the ground in early March. It's weird! Not complaining mind you, just not something we see to often. Today, perhaps 55? Yippee!

I only emptied ashes twice this week. If this keeps up I may be shutting down the AA early, although, with oil at $2.76 a gallon, it might be cheaper to run coal all summer. I wish there were a way to heat hot water on 5 pounds a day.

We just got word that mother in law has qualified for 5 hours a week of in home care. What that means for us is maybe the wife and I can have a bit of time each Saturday to ourselves. We haven't had much of a break from nursing home mode for almost 3 years now. We won't know what to do if we have time that we can do anything we want.

I hope you all have a good weekend. If you've got things to do, get 'em done, if you're taking a lazy weekend, good!

Tiger Woods might play the Masters?

Mornin' Freddy !

Glad you might be able to take the Mrs. out on a date to the next Town over the Ridge. Let us know how the coffee is. Mind you,be careful on that drive. The rivers are bulging, and here in Ohio the rain's hitting hard. The Prius looked good with the tablecloth on it. I also want to thank you. It seemed like I couldn't stop pouring my coffee! Using that ballbat to knock my elbow into neutral really saved the day! It's gotta be the Prius....I'm calling Smitty! Enjoy the Thaw, everyone. :D

Morning Freddy. Beautiful week, wasn't it? The 5 day forcast shows nothing but sun! Suppose to be in the upper 40's! the maple trees will be pouring this week. My cousin has already made 70 barrels of syrup so far. Should get another 100 before it's over. At $800 a barrel, it's a pretty good deal. Glad to hear that you and the Mrs. will spend some time alone. Be sure to take her out for a nice dinner with all the money you saved this winter by burning coal.

On another note, my wife went to see her doctor on Monday because of another sore throat. She's already had strep throat twice in about 30 days. The diagnosis was "STREP THROAT AGAIN"! :? Her doctor requested that everyone in the house get tested just in case one of us is a carrier and doesn't show any symptoms. I went and had a throat culture done on Wednesday. Got my results yesterday. Looks like I'm the culprit! I have it and never knew. The 2 boys are fine. Started the antibiotics last night. 9 more days to go. Looks like I'll have to leave the wife alone for about a week. Oh well, at least she's not mad at me for getting her sick. She's just happy that we got to the bottom of this. Have a great weekend everyone. Get out and enjoy the weather!

Bob

Morning everyone. Folgers here. It tastes extra good on a cold windy morning. WINDY as all get-out, right now. Been raining all night. We always lose a few trees to this kind of wind, and now that the ground as saturated with water, they should start falling anytime now. Had the DVC-500 running all night, and let the F.P. idle down. Even so, the house is a toasty 76F in this warm weather. I'm taking advantage of that, and doing some inside painting, since I can open windows to let the fumes out. Gotta get this house on the market next month.

Just found out I qualify for Veteran's Administration Medical & Dental Ins. ! I believe the entire family will be covered. Filling out the forms now. Whooo! Whoooo! :dancing: Wish I had known about this a year and a half ago

Back to my normal routine of working on Saturdays. Today is the last day of "birthday season". Nine years ago today I was a dad for the first time. :)

Don't enjoy the 5.5 day schedule but I know I could be in the boat with so many out of work so I'm not complaining. At least it gets me out of bed to enjoy a cup of coffee with y'all.

The wife is taking the birthday boy and his friend to play indoor mini golf and later we'll take him to the store to pick out a new bike.

Then if there is time, I have to do vehicle maintanence. The fan clutch in the truck started making noise, and when I was fixing my start in a foot of snow in January, I noticed a sway bar link was broken, and both vehicles need an oil change. I spent $100 at the parts store yesterday so my weekend will be full.

When the weather really starts to break, it'll be up on the roof for a strip and reshingle. I've been slowly trolling craigslist for deals. I got 11 square of architectural shingles for $750. And last night I picked up some ice dam for $20. The best quote I got to have it done was $6400. I think I can DIY it for $2500 or so.

Whew, I'm wore out just thinking about it. Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Morning all, a wet dreary day here. Flash flood watches up for the entire area here. Even some warning in neighboring counties. Storm on the coast and a slow mover. Weather man saying up to 2.5" of rain possible here this evening into Sunday. That along with melting snow in the hills could lead to some river flooding on the Chemung River.

On another note, new window installation has started. Had the big picture window in the living room removed and replaced with two double hung Energy Star windows yesterday. New window is quite a bit smaller than the old one. Rest of the windows should be in in a week or two. Also tearing out the sheet rock and insulating as we go. No better fun for a 7yr. old than to be allowed to take a hammer and knock holes in the wall. He had a blast. He was exhausted by 7pm and climbed up on the couch and went to sleep. More to do today. Want to get all of the sheetrock in the LR down, insulation up and new sheetrock up by Sun. afternoon so I can get a nap in before work Sun. night.

Have a good day everyone.

in home health care insurance is not something a lot of us think about until its too late.average cost per day for in home health care=$150.if you are over 60 and no current health issues or 3 year look back, it would cost about $50-$100 per mo. for a $75,000 policy, that is 500 days of in home health care.My wife is a manager at bankers life & causaulty co.she cant provide coverage outside mich. so this post is for informational purposes only.

40F and sunny in the Northeast corner of NY. I'm done burning coal unless the weather turns. The boiler was roasting us out of the house with these 50F days.

My wife and I are enjoying some 8 O'clock coffee from our new grind 'n brew coffee pot. This thing works pretty well, but it sounds like it has a 3 horse motor running the grinder.

Good Morning, the coffee is hot, but I should have added another scoop. I need the strong coffee for 'motivation' this weekend..

I have plenty to do, the house project is always calling for me.

We have wind, rain, 40*, and MUD.. I see that someone got off the driveway and got stuck. Made some deep ruts, but I do that at least once a year myself..
The county road out front has a couple of soft spots that are spring fed from the roadbed.. they will be mud-soup for a few days.. The river is high, but nothing like last year. We had 1/4 of the snowfall this year compared to last.. This is in SE Michigan.

I wish we could have at least one more good 8-12" winter snowstorm.. the snowplowing companies need the money.

I need to get to the lumber yard, plenty to do around here. I posted new photos last night in the 'huge project' thread.

I'm jealous... we just spent $1400 on our 04 Corolla. It was for routine maintenance, a new clutch and 2 new tires. Oh, and a new tire rim to replace the one which got destroyed by hitting a curb hidden by the snow. We feel blessed that it was only that much; we've been with this guy for 20 years and we know he will find the least expensive way to do the required work and no more but it would be so nice if we could do it ourselves. We normally do the routine maintenance part but since it was in the shop we just had him do it.

We are stuck in a rain pattern, too. They tell us to expect flooding along the Potomac River and Old Town Alexandria has broken out the sand bags; with the up river snow melt and the rain things are bound to get messy.

Not much to do today. I guess I'll just have to sit back and watch the b-ball games I taped yesterday. :D Have great weekend. Lisa

morning all!!
I don't drink coffee but I can BS with the best of them. Really windy here today. I have been out of coal for 2 weeks now and am burning (that bad word) gas. Keeps my butt warm but costs a little more. I think I will replace my garbage disposal today. It has been broken for months. I should just rest but I don't know how any more. I have only been sleeping for a couple of hours every night. I think it may be taking its toll on me though. I went to the ER last weekend for chest pains. They did tests and said all that they could tell me was I did not have a heart attack. But I have been holding what's left of my life and family together. And I may see a small light at the end of the tunnel. Take care everyone and have a great weekend!!

Good morning everyone! It's not raining here yet but the weather sure impacted my day yesterday! I was supposed to fly home from Atlanta at 7, but the flight got delayed a few times and it changed gates a few times. Finally on the plane we sat for an hour before they towed us from the gate, then the tow bar shear pin broke. We left for Pittsburgh at 10:40ish arriving at 12am. By the time I got my bag and drove home it was 2:30.
Now I'm getting ready to go to my camp and see if the snows did any major damage. The mountain should be accessible today, I hope...
Hopefully the rains and snow melt will not be a problem for anyone!
