Has anyone seen it yet? I don't have HBO,but from what I understand, this follow-up to 2001's "Band Of Brothers" started yesterday,14Mar2010. Episode 1 supposedly highlights the story of Marine Sgt. John Basilone's storied Service in WW2. He was awarded the Congressional Medal Of Honor for fighting on the 'Canal. I was wondering how the show storyline ran compared to the real history of the man and the Marines he fought with. I was a big fan of Band of Brothers, all the way up to the current effort to still get Major Winters the CMH before he leaves us. It has been interesting to see changes in real life events in that script compared to the actual ones related by the men who served with Major Winters and the actual Combat Action Reports. John Basilone didn't survive the war,he was KIA on Iwo Jima. Always remember that the word "Hero" refers to those that never made it home, and those that were ordinary Servicemen and Servicewomen who performed extraordinary actions............Just My Humble Opinion (JMHO)

Tom Hanks opened his pie hole and ruined any enjoyment I might have had for the series.

You can't write off a Hero because of some butt-head actor that doesn't know what to say unless he has a script in front of him--Band of Brothers was outstanding  We don't have HBO either--just an antenna w/ 8 channels---good opinion Bob :discuss:

For those of us who do not have cable or satellite, you can watch the first episode here:
**Broken Link(s) Removed**As far as I can tell, Fancast is a legal site. There are short commercials during the breaks. My guess is that they will show a few of the episodes to get you hooked, but I'm not sure.

So bashing one of the Producers of the show for giving a little background story to what the series is about ruined it for you? :wtf:

Also found this on Fancast:
**Broken Link(s) Removed**For those of you who liked Band Of Brothers, the second show ("We Stand Together") contains the interviews of the members of Easy Company and the 506th. Watching them you get a real sense of where the series took its direction. Very poignant stuff. I felt like I should watch it standing up. At attention. Not that I was in the military; just because they deserve the respect.

I don't know that I would have caught that Tom Hanks was narrating the beginning of "The Pacific" had I not read it here first. Didn't really bother me.

My pleasure, guys. I recently stumbled across that site. It's got some good things on it. As a non-cable-subscriber, I love the internet, and it's about time they moved things away from only cable/dish. I feel pretty strongly that they will eventually start charging for it, so enjoy it for now.

There are plenty of sites out there where you can watch tv, but most (if not all) of them are less than legitimate. I'll refrain from listing them here.

By the bye, if you have one of the ISPs that utilize espn360 (Verizon does) then you can get pretty good college football as well as a lot of other sports (I only watch football, generally). http://www.espn360.com

Back on topic: I liked the first episode of The Pacific, but I didn't get the same feeling of connection like I did with BoB. I'll continue to watch it though to see if it improves for me.

I don`t see much if anything wrong with Hanks comments, heck they had had interment camps in this country for the people of Japanese decent. We had slang names for them & I`m sure they had them for us, its part of war IMO, probably always has been we used them in Nam they use them now. The British were redcoats the Indians redskins(no offense Fred) heck my past has been traced back to Mongolia so I guess that makes me a mongol. There have always been ethic & racial slurs, I`m not saying its right nor do I agree with them & I try not to use them but its as much a part of history as the wars.

Well it looks like no more Pacific on Fancast. HBO probably shut them down.

For those of you with Flame Suit Central, look at this thread: <link removed> Some things, unfortunately, do not change. I think Hanks's comments should be taken in context of the time about which he was speaking. To say that that's how he feels now I think is highly inaccurate. Well put comment, SamHill. I'm German so, apparently, I hate everyone :D

I was worried about that, too. I think that HBO released part one on Fancast to whet your appetite. It worked, though, didn't it :x
