Last I knew, it was not in the President's job description (that is to say, in the Constitution) to run the legislative branch.

That the Senate has maintained its self-imposed rules is remarkable, given the threats by Republicans to change the 60-vote thing back when they had a big majority, and the similar mutterings by Democrats in the last year. It shows they as a group have not yet descended into total barbarian conflict.

Mitt, while a good executive with a ton of experience, he also has too much baggage. Remember, it's his name on the MA health bill law and that's turned out to be a mess. Yeah, I know he was working with large DEM majorities but he could have not signed the bill and forced them to overturn the veto in the State house. He went the easy way; we need someone who will make the hard choices and carry them out. I don't know that that person has arrived on the scene yet. Lisa

PS. Looks and charisma are what got us Obama. We HAVE to move past that.

My interpretation of his statement is he couldn't care less about the rules that govern the legislature as long as they pass his ridiculous health care bill.

They haven't been pressed into doing it yet, but the upcoming reconciliation maneuver (if the House passes the two health care bills pending) will be a fiasco. The parliamentarian will be pressed to bend the rules governing what qualifies for reconciliation process. Amendment process may well be cut off by Biden declaring debate over by fiat because he considers the amendments being offered to be frivolous or nothing but delaying tactics. They have in the past broken their pledges to post bills for 72 hours before votes, conducted late night votes to try to slip things by the people they represent and the media that keeps tabs on them, etc. Just because they are only planning to bend them to an inch of the breaking point, doesn't mean they deserve praise, especially given the promises of conducting the most ethical congress ever. I don't know about you, I took that to mean civic and procedural ethics, not just personal ethics of the congress critters (which they have utterly failed on too).

I'm telling you, you know, pre-existing, they're going to be covered. You know we're going to control the insurance companies.
