Saturday's get together

PostBy: lowfog01 On: Fri Mar 19, 2010 5:04 am

Hi All,

I want to invite everyone to Saturday's Tea Party on the West Lawn of the Capital at 12. Come on out and meet a few thousand of your like minded friends if you are in the neighborhood. PM me and we'll get together for drinks or dinner. Between coal and politics we will have lots to talk about. :) Lisa

We got back from DC at 2AM. Thanks Lisa for the help regarding using the Green and Red Line to get into town. I'm sorry we couldn't meet but as it turned out I got sick. Around 3PM I was hurling along side the road by the Washington Monument. I created a small traffic jam. It is a good thing the security cameras don't have sound. I wouldn't gave been very good company the way I was feeling. I foresee more trips in down to DC in my future. I heard something about a 2nd Amendment rally in the works.

Anyway it was a great rally. My wife weaved her way to the ropes near the stage. I was having a hard time keeping up with her. I was afraid I would lose her in the crowd which I heard was 25,000 strong. I have chest congestion from a cold I'm getting over so I couldn't shout out but my wife did enough of that for both of us. There were a lot of good speakers but the girl from Brazil impressed me. I can't remember her name but the way she laid out her beliefs passionately and eloquently won't leave me anytime soon.

I had to get out of the sun before it was over and while in the shade by 1st and Penn my wife and I meet a nice couple from PA. We talked with them while I fought the nausea. You called about then. A little while after that I laid down under a tree over by the reflecting pool but I kept feeling worse. While there I thought I heard them say over the pa system by the capitol building in the distance that "they don't have the votes". A cheer went up from the crowd. I haven't verified that yet. My step daughter and her bow picked us up from there. That is how I got to the Washington Monument to put on my show. We got something to eat at a seafood market after that and the nausea returned but not as bad. I got back to "normal" about midnight. Thank goodness my step-daughter drove home. Her bow is on his way back to Orlando in another car about now. I'm glad they decided they wanted to go. It would of been a real mess if I got sick like that with just my wife and I.

Lessons learned;1 be more careful what we eat traveling 2 bring hats 3 bring signs 4 bring sunscreen 5 don't eat at the seafood market (I'm sure you know where I mean.)

Thanks again for the local intel.

Well... it was a good rally all around. The buses just kept coming - 80 from San Diego alone we were told. I think we had a definite influence on the Rule Committee not to use the "demon pass" farce to advance this bill. Although, I sort of, kind of wish they had used it because I believe Obama signing it into law would have been an impeachable offense and we could have gotten rid of him that way but the country doesn't need that. The fact that the crowd was estimated at 25,000 plus says volumes. This was planned at the last minute when it was decided that the vote would happen this weekend. The Congressional Offices were overflowing with folks and the lines at the Democratic offices where out the door and down the hall. Of course none of the Representatives voting for the bill were available but you could leave a message and sign the book.

As Cokehead said, the weather was great - plenty of sun and warm temps with a cool breeze. A lot of people were caught off guard because there was no shade because the trees are still without leaves here. I hear that a couple of black congressman are saying they were verbally attacked by Party goers but I didn't see anything like that and as of last night there where no video or audio of anything like that on the internet. And believe me every one there had a phone camera or a video camera; if it happened it will be on line this morning.

We do live in interesting times - don't underestimate the power of one individual taking action. Let your voices be heard. Lisa

Hi Valley Trash,

Sorry I never responded to this posting. Believe me, if I could afford a ticket to Alaska I'd be heading out that way. I have my computer home page set to the weather page of Barrow, AK so I can follow the winter out there. Nothing says warm like knowing you're at 30* while the folks in Barrow are dealing with -60 wind chill. Seriously, I do plan on making a trip to Barrow one day just to "walk around." I'm told that's about all there is to do there but I have my doubts about that because I discovered there is a National Park there and a campus of the state university. They also advise me to come between JUN and AUG unless I want to buy a whole new wardrobe. Besides that's when the polar bear viewing at the dump is the best. :D

I plan for my trip to Barrow,AK, which as you know is the northern most US city, to be the culmination of my quest to have been in all 50 states. I have been in 45 - missing NM, ND, SD, HI and AK. I had intended to have each of my kids in all 50 states before they where 18 but wouldn't you know, they grew up too fast. Now they to have to make up the last 5 themselves. They've been to HI but not MI. I've been to MI but not to HI, go figure. I suppose I could squeeze the remaining 5 in for my 15 year old but the ones we need aren't convenient, lay over states. I guess fate wants to test my resolve in completing my quest. :D

I hope the spring comes soon for you'll out in the last frontier. Take care, Lisa

Here are the pictures I took at the "Kill the Bill" rally at the steps of the Capitol building on 3-20-2010.

Rep Stupack flipped his vote to yes based on a promise of an executive order by Obama stating no federal money will be used for abortions. Looks like they now have the votes to push the health care bill through. Executive orders can be reversed.

I'm not surprised. Stupak was never Pro-life, he was always pro no spending of government money for abortions. One is a personal value that is ingrained in your very existence and one is adapted for the benefit of individuals - it can change as required. This is a sad day for America but the fight will go on and when the excrement hits the fan as it surely will as everyday bill/tax payers wake up to increased taxes, greater intrusion into their personal lives and have few benefits this will be easier and easier to overturn.

Gosh guys, if you hadn't been convinced of the evils of this bill over the last year then nothing anyone says will convince you otherwise. Some people have to experience it to believe it. The bottom line is the math doesn't add up. You can't add 32 million people to the medicare rolls and save any money. That's like adding kids to your family and not getting a pay increase. Your standard of living goes down. You eat hamburger instead of steak; off brand products instead of name brands. Your car last a few years longer. It just doesn't work. A third of the medical doctors have said they will get out of the business and/or stop taking on new medicare cases. More students aren't going into medicine and why should they. My own daughter has the grades and did have the desire to go but why would she now? My parents in rural GA have been told that they are lucky that they already see their doctor because he is no longer taking new medicare patients. States are being held for larger and larger unfunded medical mandates that they can't afford. Who do you think is having to pay for the increased numbers on the medicare rolls? Who do you think is going to allow them into their practice? Your state taxes are going up and your access is going down. There is no way to avoid that. That's why 37 of the 50 states to date are planning to sue the federal government over the 10 Amendment and I bet it won't take long before the rest join them. We can't afford this "free" health care! Look at MA or TN. And if you say you've haven't seen or heard any of this being in the bill than you are just hearing what you want to hear. The truth is various Democratic members of congress have said this from the House and Senate floor and it is in the bill. Why do you think it was so hard to get the bill passed? They wouldn't have needed to bribe people if this was a good bill. People would have been happy to stand up and say yes. They didn't because it stinks; they were bribed to support it.

That being said, I wonder how long it will be before we see postings here of how bad this health care bill actually is. I bet it will be somewhere along the time that your tax burden doubles as it will when the Bush tax cuts are rolled back as promised and the 17 new taxes found in the new health law start to incur. Someone here was bitching about paying $214 a month for health care, the math tells you to expect that to double and soon; the numbers don't lie. That happens immediately but you won't get any health care until 2014 long after Obama is gone. I heard today that the new taxes will cause the average taxpayers bill to at least double if not triple. Yeah, this bill is going to save you a bunch of money while providing better access! And all at a time when the US economy is struggling. Oh, I forget the small businesses that will have to cut jobs of some to pay for the health care of others. That's real sound economics. What a joke - this is one time I wish I was wrong but the numbers don't lie.
