lawnboy lawnmowers, the best hand mower

I picked up 2 lawnboy 22260 commercial models on ebay cheap. Neither ran but now they do , had to replace the reed valve in the 1, they did not seem to have alot of internal wear, but neglect, left out in the rain or the bottom of the river or in the deep end of the water trap on the golf corse . The 2 nd one did run but is struggling now, it needs the reed valve replaced also. Seems to have the surge problem also, gonna try to drill the main jet out 1 size. I could not believe how the gas smelled,a little like varnish but more like water, no color from oil or gas, just pure clear liquid. Now I know that hyrodgen will burn but not in a liquid H2O formula

I sure agree with all the Lawnboy lovers. My dad sold them when I was a kid. The only problem was he never sold another to the same person!
I do have to throw in a word for another mower though.... 29 years ago we bought a brand new 5hp Briggs engine self propelled walk behind Yazoo. Other than a new engine after 26 years , it's still going strong. Oh, yaaaa, the belts need replacement every 10 years or so, but the rest of it is darn near indestructible. I'm not sure if they still make them, but you can still get parts....but the only part you'd ever, ever, have to buy from the factory would be the drive pawls that rub on the wheels to provide the forward motion. I've replaced them once. ALL other parts are hardware store, or make it yourself from common steel.

<edit> Just did some searching... idiot government! The Yazoo walk behind is no longer made, "Owners should not use the product if they own one." They do not meet the "stop blade in 3 second" law. However, not ONE injury from a Yazoo! <quote from CPSC website> " Neither CPSC nor the company is aware of any consumer injuries resulting from the lack of a blade control device on these mowers."
Looks like I'll have to make my own drive pawl. Maybe I'll need a set in 2019.

That's exactly it. No one needed another mower.

Smitty's tip of the day:
pull the carb off & get a welder tip cleaner set, & run those little roughed-up rods through each passage in the carb. That will guarantee they are 100% clean, rather than just relying on compressed air & our treehugger-friendly store-bought carb cleaner. Follow up with said air & cleaner to get the rest of the crap out that you loosened up & she'll run better than day 1.

I must be nuts or just getting to old to push, picked up another lawnboy commercial on ebay for $77, a model 22261 self propelled. A little carb cleaner, and borrowed a ignition coil from a 22260 and she runs like a champ. I still shop ebay for a deal, might I find an older lawnboy commercial from the 80's. I get a kick from bringing them back to life. The guy I bought this one from worked at a mower dealer. Nobody wants to fix anything today. My kids are going to do a project in school from something they recycled. Might be better not to throw some things away in the first place, isn't that where recycling starts. IT'S A THROW AWAY SOCIETY, that's good for some of us

Picked this up yesterday, $50, is it like new, had to be used 5 times at the most. One Craftsman, one Murray out to the garbage.

I think all of the older 2-stroke lawnboys say 'commercial ' on them, both of mine do. Does anyone have the model with the red wheels and gas tank? They seem to be the ones that are really commercial. I'm not sure what is different on them except a larger tank and I think the wheels are metal.

I have a Snapper 20" commercial self propelled deck, no engine, free to anyone who wants it. Paid $75 used for it, never really used it as I use a sit down Snapper, and sold the 2 stroke Robin engine on CL for $100. I guy from FL contacted me, wanted only the engine. So I removed it, sold it
