If you read most of my posts you would know that I don`t blame only republicans but I will put blame where I believe it belongs, we were well over that 1 trillion in debt, the first bail out (with no provision for pay back) wasn`t included nor were all the war costs & all the blank checks that were handed out, the economy was not fundamentally sound like we were told over & over again. The Dem.s were just as guilty, as I say follow the money, B.O. came in to a pile of crap with more on the way, I don`t know if he made all or any of the right moves but if you think anything or anybody could turn things around-in a few months I think your mistaken. There has never to my knowledge been any party that publicly came out & stated that they would do nothing for this Pres., & yet when their party comes back into power they will cry like little kids if they get no help from the Dem.s. Get real its a two way street & IMO both are going the same way, following the money & filling their pockets at our expense.

Mark Twain said "When you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging" I don't disagree with much of the stuff in your post samhill re inheriting a bunch of crap. I DO know that exacerbating the situation by just printing a boatload of money and parceling it out based on political considerations was the WRONG move. If you want to put $800 into the economy all you have to do is stop collecting $800 billion payroll taxes. Temporary amnesty. That puts in right in everyones hands, costs very little to implement, and is immidiate. But that wouldn't work for the pols since they want to pay it out according to their own political agenda.

If money gets tight at my house the FIRST thing I do is cut or freeze spending, NOT go out and buy more stuff I don't need! It really ISN'T as complicated as they try and make it out to be.

Now I`m not at all sure about this one but as memory serves me(not too well) he did do something shortly after getting in that gave a little more back in the paycheck. Don`t get one so can`t say for certain, but that only helps the ones that are lucky enough to still be working, I believe the biggest problem right off the bat was stopping a run on the banks to keep this a recession & not depression. Maybe something else could have been done but wall st. banks were allowed to get too big & powerful, if they went under so would most of the other smaller banks. As someone pointed out in the Palin thread I believe a Pres. can`t know everything & thats why he has advisors, he still does not have a whole staff because of politics holding things up, seems like everyone knows what he should not have done but do know what should have been done. I think that given the way things were going at the time giving everyone a good chunk of money, most if at all possible would have saved it while the others would spend sparingly & that wouldn`t stave off a depression or help the economy.
