But while it will take people less time to earn the money this year than it did in 2007, Americans will still spend more on taxes in 2010 than they will on food, clothing and shelter combined, the Tax Foundation said.

State-by-state: Each state has its own Tax Freedom Day. The day arrived earliest in Alaska and Louisiana -- on March 26 -- because of "modest incomes and low state and local tax burdens," the Tax Foundation said.

Mississippi, South Dakota and West Virginia celebrated soon after, on March 28, March 29 and March 30, respectively.

Connecticut, the state with the highest per capita income, will be the last to celebrate. Tax Freedom Day won't arrive until April 27, the 117th day of the year.

The biggest problem in being from NYS is that people think we all live in NY city & make hundreds of thousands of dollars per yr. & live in million dollar apartments--yep,we're pretty far down on the food chain--what also sux is that we get taxed in accordance with the cities needs :mad2: :bang: bop2

Being the largest recipient of Federal tax money per capita and sitting on top of huge oil reserves which pay dividends to the state hardly qualifies as "doing something right".

I don't hate people unless I meet them personally and they give me a reason. I just don't let my c*ck make political decisions for me.

She hasn't done anything remarkable. Certainly nothing that would make her the "smartest governor...in 20 years."

You never heard of her before she was picked for VP. As close as she was with Ted Stevens, you probably would have heard about her when she got indicted.

Well that makes one person. The rest of the country really doesn't pay much attention to an unremarkable former beauty queen being governor of a remote outpost that is generally known for oil supplies and oil spills.

Most of the country could tell you the cast of "Deadliest Catch" before they could tell you who the governor is or was.

Good for you that you can keep up with minor players in the political system. I generally just try to keep up with my own.

Having access to large sums of money helps, HOWEVER, she could have always spent it on "projects" like politicians like to do and alaska could be in the same boat as NY and CA. The fact that she DIDN'T squander her states resources, is what makes her smart. Prudent fiscal policy is not spending more than you take in. It doesn't MATTER how much you take in.

And Jpete - please explain what her looks have to do with anything?? So she was a former beauty queen. If she were male and a high school football star would you have felt compelled to mention that in your analysis of the person as a former governor? If she were unattractive would THAT get mentioned? None of that has anything to do with the price of tea in china and shouldn't even be mentioned in intelligent conversation unless you chose to not put yourself in that category? ;)

If she looked like the south end of a north bound bulldog she wouldn't have made it to where she is.

I think at least 80% of the men that "support" her harbor fantasies of how she might pay them back for their vote.

Just my opinion.

WOW  i think your opinion is disgraceful ... ive only ever herd such comments about how she looks coming from the dems. i have never once herd a conservative say they liked her based on her looks.

How shameful that is
