It really won't matter who controls the White House or Congress. Between the speculators and big-oil, gasoline will be $4.50 as soon as supply gets tight. Does anyone at all have the ability to fight them? I doubt it. Even if we emptied the strategic petroleum reserve, to increase domestic supply, would there be any more gas at the pumps as long as the oil companies control the refineries? Some states have forced a split between electricity producers and electricity deliverers. I wonder if that would be beneficial with gas and oil -- forcing oil producers to divest themselves of all refinery ownership?

“The President’s announcement today is a smokescreen. It will almost certainly delay any new offshore exploration until at least 2012 and include only a fraction of the offshore resources that the previous Administration included in its plan.

"It will almost certainly delay "

"almost certainly"

"almost"

Bloomberg (not exactly a liberal bastion) article from May 2004: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid= ... news_index
Gas Price Surge Under Bush Follows Unchecked Refinery Mergers
By Jim Efstathiou Jr.

May 17 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush allowed an increase in oil refinery mergers to go unchecked since he took office and may have contributed to the highest gasoline prices in 20 years as the November election approaches.

The Bush administration approved 33 takeovers totaling $19.5 billion, on top of 21 deals worth $7.3 billion under President Bill Clinton, Bloomberg data shows. Reduced supplies were already pushing up gas prices in Clinton's term, according to a Federal Trade Commission study conducted after pump prices rose to more than $2 a gallon in Milwaukee and Chicago in 2000.

``We're in a much worse position than we were when the federal government broke up the Rockefeller oil companies of the early 1900s,'' Jon Meade Huntsman, a registered Republican and founder of Salt Lake City-based Huntsman Co., the largest privately held chemicals maker, said in an interview. ``The average guy on the street is getting killed because this administration does not care.''

Do you really believe that if we found the largest oil reserve in the world today right in the center of the U.S. & were able to start production of gas tomorrow that it would drop the price. It`s sold on the world market, the price would drop some but the demand would quickly bring it right back up thru speculation. On monday all the news media would be claiming that we were going to keep it all & the price would skyrocket, the tankers would be coming in empty & going out full.

TVB, your ammo is wet, you're going back six years and blaming Bush again. I don't totally defend Bush at all, but what are you going to do next? Blame George Washington? Adam and Eve?
If you and all your lefty friends here can't see that we are in the middle of an unprecedented Marxist radical attempt to destroy the USA, I guess we'll all have to wait and see. I suppose you want to see your socialist heroes continue to spend money we don't have and increase government bureaucracy to the point of absurdity. Some of in this country want to see the Constitution and our way of life preserved. You want a nanny state.Your entire line of thought seems to be to demonize Bush. That's always going to make me want to demonize the current Administration, you know, the one that wants to erase the Second Ammendment, bow down to our enemies, make empty promises to buy time for its anti-freedom agenda, tax energy by making CO2 a pollutant and alarming the populace with the phony AGW scam, insult our patriotic military heroes by handing Constitutional rights to Muslim terrorists, and throw the borders open to garner certain votes.
You will notice that lifelong citizens are starting to talk about leaving the USA, I guess that is Bush's fault too.
What are you going to say when our AAA bond rating just wont hold up anymore? Are you going to applaud when Obama gives Federal land to the Chinese to pay off his destructive debt?
You liberals ALWAYS stick up for the enemies of the USA. A lot of you live out in the middle of nowhere (rberg) and have no clue what is going on in the population centers, you preach from your high liberal horse, saying 'we all have to take care of each other'; as long as it's somebody elses wealth you are redistributing.
Do you think Reagan or Bush would have made drinking beer with an uppity professor a priority while Ahmenidinejad furiously pursues his only purpose, to destroy Israel with nuclear weapons?
Why don't you go have a glass of di-hydrogen monoxide.

Ammo's all wet? I don't think so. The chart goes through 03/31/2010. You can track those oil and gas prices through the last four years of the Bushco admin and through the first two years of the Obama admin. You need to know how to read a chart though.

I was referring to the Bloomberg article from 2004. Once again you illustrate your liberal inability to consider other points of view, your sophomoric attempts to disguise unbridled blind animosity with the distortion of facts, and misinterpretations of opposing points of view. You used to infuriate me, now I know you're not deserving of anything more than being laughed at.
Oh, and by the way, in a previous post, in your typical hateful and ignorant manner, you accused me of being a tax cheat, like your friends Geitner and Rangel. My accountant is a combat decorated Viet Nam Veteran who was spit on by liberals like you after the war. Maybe you'd like to take it up with him.
Don't forget to watch your buddy Bill Maher insult good Americans today, it's obvious you don't work for a living.

I guess there is a need to acknowledge one should know how to read in order to comprehend the part where I very clearly wrote the article was from may 2004. I guessing being that obvious is being deceptive. Nice try. If you need some tutoring, I recommend the classics about Dick and Jane.

You are one viscious example of humanity. I'm currently tutoring a college student in chemistry and physics. I no longer have any interest in entering into a covalent bond with you. You are a woman, ruled by emotion, under your own egotistical impression that you contribute intelligent, logical posts. Have fun with your hatred, it has nothing to do with politics, you simply crave any kind of attention you can get.

What, is it 1951 again? Joe McCarthy, where are you when we need you?
Dann757 wrote:I suppose you want to see your socialist heroes continue to spend money we don't have

Because W spent it all on his needless war. But that's OK, we have a stupid war once per generation, whether we need it or not.

We all do. Honest.

Well, when one needs a demon, one takes the closest to hand.

You mean the administration that signed the law allowing guns in national parks?

Right. Just cut their throats. Oops! That one was innocent? Damn!
Dann757 wrote:You will notice that lifelong citizens are starting to talk about leaving the USA, I guess that is Bush's fault too

STARTING to talk? Lots have been talking for years, and yes, partly because of Bush. The problem for the ones talking now is, Canada doesn't want that kind.
Dann757 wrote:You liberals ALWAYS stick up for the enemies of the USA

That's really a wacko thing to say.

The FAR EDGE of nowhere, if you will consult your atlas. And why does no one recoqnize the letter "Q" when it is not capitalized, asks rberQ?

MAD still applies.
