New laws going into affect as a result of the "kids for cash" scandal.

Wow that's crazy. I was just up in Owego last week. I should take a ride to Elmira next time, that's where my mom was born from what I hear. I watched the show Breakout last night, about a nasty murderer and his buddy that escaped from prison in Elmira. They took months to cut their way up onto the roof, then the one guy fell off the bedsheet rope they made and broke his ankle. Slowed them down a lot. They caught them in two days.

We get a lot of the updates about this in our local paper. I usually post updates if I see them if Richard hasn't already done so.

It was nuts around here until they caught them. No matter where you went there were roadblocks and checkpoints. Never saw so many cops and guards in my life. They weren't messing around with the little guns either. EVERY one of them had some sort of longun slung over their shoulder.

It's bad enough to have one maximum security prison in town but the whole area has gone down hill even worse since they built the 2nd one. Lots of realatives of the inmates move here to be closer for visitation and many of them are low income and welfare recipients that bring nothing to the community but more crime.

The worse part is the judges will get off easy & get to keep their pensions which will be more than a lot of us make doing honest work.

I agree. I think if he loses his licence due to this, he should also lose his pension. I also don't think they should have been offered a plea deal in this.

Some of these kids were probably good kids that just made a bad decision and got sent to these detention centers that were probably no better than a jail. This could have a negative impact on these kids that may have otherwise learned their lesson by just being caught and going to court.
