Friends, disciples and fans throughout the heavy metal community are remembering the late Ronnie James Dio as not only one of the best but one of the kindest vocalists in history. The singer for Black Sabbath, Rainbow and of course, Dio, succumbed to cancer on Sunday at age 67.

My buddy told me about this yesterday afternoon. I had just watched a video from a TX news station that did an interview with him & his wife at the hospital not that long ago. He was upbeat, & didn't look too bad, all things considered. Just goes to show how quickly things can turn with the "C" word. Bad *censored*. So many good people needlessly die from it. I lost my best friend to it - he was only 26.

What a voice Dio had. I saw him at the Palladium in Worcester back in '96. Still belted tunes out perfectly even recently. I know he just released a new album not that long ago, & was working on another when this happened. No one will ever fill his shoes on stage. Sad day, for sure. :(

I shall play nothing but Black Sabbath & solo Dio stuff for the rest of this week in tribute.

A sad day indeed... I read the news last night, and had heard last week on Sirius that his band Heaven and Hell had postponed their tour due to his stomach cancer as he wasn't well enough to tour. The news of his death was shocking to me. He was an extremely talented performer, he will be truly missed.

Thanx for posting the videos, guys. I had seen him perform in Cleveland back in the 80's. I would have never believed all that voice would have come out of guy that size. He didn't break a sweat. He didn't specialize in what I call "Scrap Metal". He specialized in good, hard driving rock of the time. His collaborations with Richie Blackmore led to some amazing tunes. Rest In Peace,R.J.D.,for you are no longer the "Last In LIne".

Eddy Trunk Live is on the Boneyard on Sirius/XM (XM51 ... not sure what channel it is for former Sirius subscribers) right now doing his entire show remembering Ronnie. Various musicians are randomly calling in with their stories.
