Wake up all you sleepyheads! Rooster Brother coffee is fresh & hot so come on in & share a cup. It'll get your rear in gear and your fingers typing. A basic breakfast awaits. Nothing fancy, just a plate of sliced fruits, homemade wheat toast, fresh eggs scrambled & some home fries from the left over baked potatoes. OK, OK, there's some of those pre-cooked sausage links for those that are going to really be burning calories today. If you're moving coal by hand, you're allowed a link per ton.
What a beautiful week it's been! Marty has been on vacation so I kind of didn't do much either. We spent a few nights at camp....our home away from home. The last two years we have not spent any nights there at all. Caring for mother in law has kept us from there because she can't get down the stairs from the parking lot. Ya know, at one point they gave her 6 months to live. Now it wouldn't surprise me if she made it another 6 years. So, OK, we're not going to go six years without using the camp. A quick design. Aim just right, only cut a few small little trees & voila, we built a 65ish foot wheel chair ramp. Yup, dat's a long one! It's three feet wide, except one place it has to sneak between the big propane tank & a rock so it funnels down to 29" there. Fun project.
Hope you are having the same early Spring that we are. Around here lilacs usually don't bloom until weeks from now but this year....they've gone by already!
Oh..anyone want an Australian Shepherd pup? Sister in laws dog just had eight pups. Only four are spoken for. Line starts by the big rock!
My thoughts go out to all the people that are close to the oil spill. Sad, sad, situation. It really bugs me how unprepared they were for this type of thing. *sigh*

Morning Gang,

I'm up and out early this morning. I'm working on the Travel Trailer this morning. We were a bit slow winterizing it last fall and had some pipes freeze. We'll see just how much damage was done today. We're also going to check out the caulking on the roof. Then it's off to a Memorial Day BBQ. It's supposed to be a beautiful day out with temps in the high 70s and clear although there is a slight chance of T-storms. We tend to ignore that warning because there is always a slight chance of T-storms between now and SEP. It's just something in the back of your mind.

Well, I'm off to the grocery store - hopefully, I'll beat the crowds just getting one last thing before the holiday. I can't forget the sun screen; the pools open today. Take time to remember our vets from all wars; many paid the ultimate price for the country. Have a great weekend! Lisa

According to Smitty’s report elsewhere I am glad I was not in Massachusetts yesterday. New Jersey was not bad for a holiday weekend coming up. I was a bit disappointed to find that Pennsylvania finished work on the I 78 bridge toll express lanes. After months of backups I would have thought they would keep the lane restrictions through the Memorial Day weekend and make 78 a parking lot from Phillipsburg to Newark. I came through the new EZ PASS express lane at 3:45 Friday afternoon without even slowing down, a major black eye for Penndot but I saw on the news last night they made up for it with major backups on I 81 north of Hazleton.

Today I have to mow grass and then mow grass and after I get done that mow some more grass…or drink beer ‘till the grass doesn’t look so high and put it off ‘till next weekend. Another week with virtually no rain and we are getting a bit dry in my part of Schuylkill county. I have my T-Tape in the garden and drip tube in the raspberries and blueberries to pump them up nice and big but rain is much cheaper and the trees and lawn would appreciate it. Everyone have a nice weekend, typing isn’t getting my work done so I have to go.

Good morning everyone. I hope everyone is well, and will have a nice Memorial day weekend.

My weekend started yesterday afternoon when I got back to Michigan after five days bouncing around the country. I inspected the new gutters on the house, the job is pretty good, only a few things done slightly different if I'd been here watching the install. So now I'm ready for the next rainstorm.

I put the outdoor patio furniture out on the deck last evening, sat and enjoyed the backyard for the first time: nice view of the Koi Pond, with it's waterfall splashing and gurgling, the swallows aerobaticly flying around eating their evening meal of mosquitos, and welcoming the shade and cooling on this east side of the house.. it's perfect.. there is however the large pile of dirt and rocks remaining from the excavation of the basement blocking the view of part of the backyard.. something I need to move once the slate floor is finally done.

My agenda: more slate flooring.. I'm hoping one of the unreliable installers will show up today and save my knees and back the agony. But I've not heard from either of them yet. The slate floor is the main stumbling block in the way of further progress on the house..

My 83 year old mother will be driving !! up from Florida in three weeks, so I have to get her apartment emptied out and ready for her to occupy for the summer. I called Mom last week to see if she wanted me to fly in and drive her up north.. But she said no, she and her friend would be fine. They take 2 1/2 days for the drive, I usually do it in 1 1/2, maybe she didn't want a chauffer that was in such a hurry !! ??

I went and got vegetable plants from my buddies' green house yesterday, lots of tomatoes, squash, peppers and string beans.. I'll get them planted this morning.. In the past this didn't bother my knees much,, but this year.. it might.

The AA boiler is still running, burning only a bucket or so of coal a day, I'll probably shut it down in another few weeks.. but for now, it's making DHW and making sure I'm ready for any cold nights..

My well insulated new portion of my house is working well with the hot weather, I'm opening the windows at night, letting in the cool air, and closing up in the morning, the house feels like it's air-conditioned when I come in from outside, it stays comfortably cool all day and evening.. Lots of concrete floor with slate on it for a cool 'heat sink'.

Well off for a second cup of brew..
Have a great day everyone..and don't forget to say a prayer of thanks for our Veterans who fought for everything we usually take for granted..

Greg L

Good morning everyone, I trust everyone is having a great Veterans Day weekend.. I'm waiting for a tile installer to show up, so I can get this floor done.. Maybe today..

I spent a lot of time on the loader moving dirt and rocks yesterday. I put in the vegetable garden, and set up the watering hose.. 85* yesterday, 87* today.. nice and cool overnight, about 60*, I had the windows open alll night..

About half the vegetable garden went in yesterday. Mice? got into my seedling pots and ate every last cucumber, summer squash, winter squash, and pumpkin seed a couple weeks ago, so I'm sowing seed directly in the garden this year. It seems like the direct-sowed plants catch up to the seedlings within six weeks more or less, so I'm hopeful it will work out OK. Tomatoes and a few others I get from the greenhouse as seedlings, and those will go in tomorrow -- tonight is predicted to be cold again.

My son showed up last night with his cat. He's going to be in NYC for a month, so we get to cat sit. We have never had a cat. It was very calm when it came out of its travel crate, and basically ignored our two 80-pound dogs except to take a warning swipe at one that was a little too inquisitive. But we'll see what happens today when they are all running around the house together. It doesn't seem to like me very much, but it curled up with my wife last evening, so that's OK.

I'll get some photos up later, they are on my other PC which is still having issues with Firefox, it's running slow as mud right now. I haven't had a chance to reinstall Firefox to try and solve the problem.
