I think -0.02" at idle (just prior to a timer cycle) would work perfect. I say that because that is what mine runs most of the time. :D

Right now the inducer is running full speed, It's creating enough draft to break the baro at it's set point of between -.04"and -.05" WC and then some. Draft reading on the man-o-meter is -.04" at idle. Looks like I'll have to get a rheostat to slow it down some. I would like it to be drafting at least -.02" and not much more at idle.

I remembered that I had a speed controller in stock, connected it in and the idle draft has settled down to -.02" WC. It was running way too fast, the boiler temperature was slowly rising.

John, Go back and check IOF's posts. I think he had the same thing with it running to fast on the low setting. I'am sure that he changed the wires in the control to run at a lower speed and still be able to turn it up if needed.

I will read that thread. Right now it's drafting just right, the controller I have is infinitely variable so I can set it from very slow all the way up to full speed. The draft with out the inducer running is -.01" WC. The issue will be when it gets hot and humid outside again, the setting may not be fast enough. What I actually need is a controller that continuously monitors the draft reading and automatically changes the inducer speed to keep the draft at the set point. Anyone up to that task?

You may find that the boiler runs hotter than before. That UAE coal will make some impressive heat with decent draft...I was able to get away with 2 minutes per hour (four teeth of feed), any more than that and the boiler would bump the high limit.

I cut the run time on the timer back before I relit. I didn't time it yet, though. Probably around 1 min 15 sec right now, but I was trying to keep the boiler going so I had increased the run time. Probably around 1 minute 15 seconds now..more or less.

After running with the inducer for over a month now I can say it is a success. I have it set to create a small amount of draft at idle, it runs all the time. Since the inducer motor is running at a small fraction of it's full speed it wasn't turning fast enough to cool itself, I added a cooling fan made from the bathroom exhaust fan I used as a combustion fan on the Alaska.

Boiler for the most part stays near the low limit set point, the exception is in the morning it reads a little higher, the natural draft increases overnight. Summer settings are 160 low limit, 2 teeth feed, timer is 2 minutes once an hour.

The best part is no more outfires!

After the cleaning and painting it's going in the kitchen, right under the bow window. It will just fit, at 19" tall.

Then the fun begins, getting hot water from the boiler to the radiator. Stay tuned.

Do not forget to test the radiator for leaks BEFORE you spend a lot of time cleaning and repainting. Been there, done that.    :!:
