No fire this weekend, still have to work on the bin and get the smoke pipe. Next weekend?

Getting coal on Saturday. If all the pieces of the smoke pipe would show up I'd be ready to roll.

Yeah!!!! Hopefully all the threaded connections stay water tight and you just have to sit in the chair and watch the flames. 4 teeth / 4 air?

I had a leaky fitting, the first reducer I installed in the bottom of the boiler, which has been under pressure for weeks now. I have looked at it twice since firing the boiler, it seems to have stopped leaking. I'm at 3 teeth, 4 air right now, I may go up to 4 teeth. My draft is good, -.04" WC on the pipe before the baro, but it drops to -03" if I raise the air to 5. The chimney drafts very well, but the oil-fired DHW heater is still connected and the blower in the EFM sure can move a lot of air.
I have to go check it again (every 15 minutes or so!).

Keep the wrenches and pipe dope close by. My Dad's EFM held pressure for a week then started dripping at a reducer bushing in the return. I ended up draining it and replacing the bushing. I hope you installed unions.

I prefer three wraps of Teflon tape on the threads, then a layer of pipe dope. "Grrip" brand pipe dope has worked great for me.

That's what I did, Teflon tape on the male ends and Teflon pipe dope on the female threads. I just checked it, still dry. No, I didn't install a union on the return, so that will be very bad if I have to disassemble it.

Thanks. Right now I'm still in check it every 15 minutes mode and don't think I should go to bed.

I remember doing that the first time I ever lit my first coal stove. My chimney was in such poor condition that I thought this place was going to burn to the ground if the stack temp got much over 175°!

But here I am 5 years later ...... and I still haven't cleaned the thing. And it wasn't cleaned in who knows how long before we bought the place in '03.

If I clean it, the mortar will fall out!

Give up John, go get the recliner, drag it down to the cellar,, you KNOW you are going to be sleeping with the EFM tonight !!

Every pipe dope/teflon tape joint leaked on my AA install.. but every joint with Permatex Ultra Black RTV sealant is bone dry..

Take a picture, John. They are bulletproof......and 86% efficient.
