new to coal Help

PostBy: riverfisher On: Mon Jun 21, 2010 4:22 pm

My family and I are moving to Scuklkill county . The house we rented has coal heat and and hot water. It has an EFM 350 [round door] the boiler is a Fitzgibbons the date on it is 1952. I know nothing about coal boilers. How do I light it? It is cold ! I want to fire it up just for domestic hot water. how do I do this? What should I set the feed and air settings be?
I will be away from the for a week after I fire it up Is there anything I need to do ?

Start by reading the manual. You are probably going to need someone to show you how to operate it. What town are you in?

Welcome to the world of coal riverfisher. You'll find a TON of excellent information and helpful people on this forum. I'm also form Schuykill county and bought a house with an EFM a few years ago. If you tell me on here or PM me with what town you're in I may be able to meet up with you and go over some of the operation with you! ~Jeremy

Thanks for the manuel Stokerman. The system is set up for steam. The gage glass and low water shutoff let me know that. I am realy good at finding out how thing work with a little help. this weekend I will fire it up for hot water. With the manuel I should be ok.
