What a Pain in the ass. My House AC kicked the bucket. I'm an HVAC engineer and my soon to be brother in-law is a certified AC installer etc. So we take a look at it and it's pretty obvious whats wrong with it, the 2 way capacitor is blown. Piece of cake, 10 minute fix.

So the AC is only 3 years old and still under warranty, 5 year parts but only 1 year labor. So I call Carrier and the say I have to go through a Carrier dealer. No problem, I get transferred to one. They say they only do service and not parts...... the only way to get a part off of them is to have them come out and tell me what's wrong with it....for $94!!!!! WTF. Plus what ever labor they would charge to replace it (even though I have the capacitor in my hand right now)

So I call around and find I can buy the capacitor for $11. So much for the F-king warranty.

$11 without the warranty....... $94+ with the warranty....... Priceless

Don't ya just love the whole CYA mentality?

We can't sell the part to you because you may install it where it doesn't go, make it go boom, and then sue us but if we send one of our techs out it won't be a problem, we'll even pick up the cost of the part!
