Good morning everyone. It's 5:00 am and the coffee is on, however I only have 6 more tea bags of Maxwell house, after that it's instant for all of us. It's the break of dawn and 27.8 degrees without a coal stove within 5000 km. of here. Thea (aunt) Carring is bringing pan anet (bread hot) to go with the coffee. My sister in law Roseanna is making everyone Spam with some fried rice with farm fresh organic eggs cooked in cocunut oil. All are welcome there's plenty to go around. If not we can get some more. We are up early this morning as the family is going to Kalawassan Falls today in a Kia Prego. It makes a Ford E-350 van look like a Tonka toy. It comes equipped with a 2.7l. diesel that puts out a whopping 85 hp! That's ok the horn and A/C work. Over here that's all that matters LOL. On Monday I would like to extend an invitation to everyone on the forum to attend the Santa Cruz Festival. After a prayer in the family chappel we will be having a wonderful time. There will be two lechom Baboys and Mama is making her award winning bico. Let's not forget San Miguel beer!!!!! I have ordered 6 cases and two cases of Tanduay rhum. So come on over everyone. The adress is Atabay, Agus, Lapu-Lapu city Cebu 6015 Philippines.

Nothing like being on the other side of the world for a while. I assume that's 27.8 deg C or about 82 deg F. Probably humid too.
Experiencing another culture up front and in the face is well worth the trip.

Anyone is welcome to start coffee! I think Rich secretly knew it was my birthday & wanted to surprise me. Ahhh, the wonders of cyber space, the coffee is always hot & the food just cooked. That Spam & fried rice & eggs sounds good. Mmmmm. Enjoy your stay in the Philippines , it sounds like it will be quite an adventure. I hope you didn't think of everything.....my Dad always said "Adventure is due to lack of preparation".
What a beautiful week! Even a bit too hot for me, but it's hard to complain about 80's when other places are over 90. It did rain half of Wed, but other than that such nice weather. Oh no, the days are getting shorter! That means...we won't talk about what that means....not for another 3 months or so.
Lisa, sorry your ball game didn't have a better ending, but every game's a good game.
Speaking of junk metal.... I was helping a buddy move and up over head in the old cellar was some junk copper from when they changed to PVC drain pipes. He gave it to me. There wasn't all that much, but it was $77 at the scrap yard! Yeeeehaaaa!
Todays project, if it isn't too hot, or doesn't rain.... did a small ditch from house to garage to bury a 4 ga copper electric. Yaaa, if I were smart I'd have buried it when I put the heat pipes in, but, when you're stupid, you're stupid for a lonnnng time. So, just go down a foot or so & put it in conduit. Then I can run the welder without a giant extension cord across the driveway.
Enjoy the weekend!

Can you say humid kaayo (very much) That's 27.8 at 5:00 am the temp now is 35.3 The sun has now set and it's pitch dark. This close to the equator the days are 12 hrs. year all long. Happy birthday Freddy!!!!! My brother Charlie also celebrates his birthday today on this full moon. Hey Chris, does your asawa want any balut or some danget? I have a cold San Miguel in my hand right now. Cold beer over here is anything less than room temp.L.O.L. Good news, I saw a coal fired power plant today in Tubigan, south of Cebu City. The stack was black with smoke coming out of it and a pile of black diamonds near it. They are building a new plant across the street from the old one with a conveyer belt going to the top. That can only mean it is also coal. I want to reasearch where the coal comes from as I have not heard that coal occours in the Philippines. Time for another San Miguel, everyone have a good day. Mine will end in 5 hrs.wlape3 wrote:Nothing like being on the other side of the world for a while. I assume that's 27.8 deg C or about 82 deg F. Probably humid too.

Morning all,
Thanks for the condolences on the game Freddy. It's a good thing we never care who actually wins, it's just something to do. Scoring those clubhouse tickets last time was our first and probably last opportunity to see how the "other side" views the game. Let me tell you it was nice.
This morning I'm back outside working with my azaleas. The heat has really done a number on them. We got up to 102* a couple of days last week. Many of the plants are in stress and have turned brown. I have dripper hoses on them now but the damage may be too late. I'm going to trim out the newly dead stuff and see if that relieves any of the stress so the rest of the plant can make it. If I can't save them I will be bummed because this was a major expenditure in my budget and I don't want to have to spend the money again.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a great weekend and following week, no more bus for me for a couple of months. Duengeon master, let us know what's to do and see in the Philippines. I know you are having the trip of a life time. Be careful. Take care, all. Lisa

Another long weekend of playing Mr Mom. I have to go pick up the middle boys project on display at the public library. Then T-ball at 1. Last game, closing ceremony and awards. This should be a long day.
And I still have to squeeze in cutting the lawn and all the regular weekend stuff.
Then Sunday I have a union meeting and I'll find out if I still have a job. Hopefully the company offered us something, anything and we call off this stupid strike.

Happy birthday Freddy!! I shall do shots today in your honor!
Rich, I hope your taking pictures! We want pictures! Especially of the local ladies ... Everyone I know has a Phillipino girlfriend, so there must be a reason for that!
Still 16 hours of daylight & 8 hours of darkness here - just the way I like it. But now that the solstice has passed, it's all downhill from here. I try not to think about it & just enjoy the warmth.
The front end is back on the RD (somewhat) - still have to bolt everything down, but the stem bearings are in & the triple-trees are installed & tight , & my forks are all back together with fresh oil, seals & emulators. Can already tell just by compressing them by hand that the ride quality is going to be 1,000,000,000% better! Might need some fine tuning, just like the carbs will, but I'm looking forward to hearing all my work RUN! Break in is going to be torture. I've got too much money into this thing to abuse it now - gotta do it right. I already missed most of this season. At least I'll be ready for earth day next year!

Happy birthday Freddy, not much going on here today. Going in @ 3PM for some O.T. third Saturday in a row. Things are looking up at work.
Going to see if I can duck out at about 9PM instead of 11PM. Planning on taking a family trip to Knobel's tommorrow morning. Our 7 yr old has never been to an amusment park except the restored carousel at a long closed local park. Now I just have to figure out how to get there. I was there once about 10 yrs ago but was asleep for most of the trip down and cant remember how to get there.
Much cooler and a lot less humid today compared to the last week.
Have a safe weekend everyone.

I did a cleanup like that when I moved into this house. Pulled down a board that was spanning two floor joists, and down came three full-length scythe blades. Rusty and very dull, thank goodness.
Found one of those at my first house, except it was very old lead-sheathed wire. The lead stopped (or was broken) below ground level, and whenever it rained hard, bubbles and steam would come up by the corner of the garage.Freddy wrote:... a small ditch from house to garage to bury a 4 ga copper electric ...

Hello Gang--
I am in the land of Freddy, well almost but I am in Maine tonight. Jim, Andy & I are on our way to New Foundland, CAnada for a week + once we land on Tues morning. We will board the ferry from the north syndey port or Nove Scotia on Monday, with a overnight and early morning arrival to New Foundland. Hope to see some whales after sunrise.
We drove up here to Bangor in a diesel too, a 1983 MB Turbodiesel. Many eyes checking us out as we traveled today but were they eyeing up the shiny yellow paint or the two extra large cargo bags on the roof racks? The car is really loaded. We saw 24mpg today and expect better from this point on as our speeds will decrease now that we are off of the US Interstates.
Enjoy the week, we will do our best.

Hi Lisa, The trip of a lifetime was when I went to the Philippines in March 1991 when I went over here to meet my wife who I have been married to for 19 1/2 years. This is my 6th. trip to Pi. I found coal mining right here in Cebu. I want to buy a few hundred kg. to find out how it burns. I would like to help you with your azaielas but I don't know anything about them. Good luck With care they will be o.k. At 5:00 pm on sunday evening. 5:00 am at home. 12 hrs difference it is 31.1 degrees with a 500 percent humidity. Just in case the humidity falls below 499 percent it will rain so it goes back up.L.O.L. Have a nice day, Richlowfog01 wrote:Morning all,

Sunday morning, a nice cool 68* f here, for Rich, that's 21*C. We have a fairly strong storm just west of us on radar, but it looks like it's disappating and will fizzle out before it get to the farm.
Rich: I can never seem to keep this straight: is it one day earlier there or one day later, since you are on the other side of the international date line..??
I slept off my commuter's fatigue last night, so I have no excuse but to get to work.. way too much to do this week.
The coffee's good, regular Maxwell House, with French Vanilla creamer and a Splenda.. I like my coffee to be like a liquid candybar. I often chase the coffee with a dark chocolate expresso bean or two from Starbucks or TraderJoes.. expensive but the caffien kick is worth it. and I need all the kicks I can get to stay moving.
Have a great day everyone,
Greg L
