Capecoaler,

That is a capital idea. I'm gonna do that when I get home from seeing my father-in-law in the hospital.

If you use the screwdriver to impact the gasket cement at 90* it will usally break up pretty good...
Then run along at 45* to remove what is left sticking...
You do not want to hit real hard or you may leave marks in the cast iron...

I'm going to go out and work on the lid a little more tonight. But....IT'S PICTURE TIME!!!!

I still have three legs to clean and polish and I have to still clean and polish the secondaries.

I also still need to finish cleaning the gasket groove in the top and polish it.

I should begin reassembly this week.

Then I need to order my baro and my two T's and then its time to install and test fire.

This was the first leg with 6 coats of polish on it. This was before I understood how to use the polish.

I'm not sure if the ash door which is polished is the same color as the full view door. I think the issue here is that I took the ash door down to bare metal. And got rid of a lot of the casting pits. I think I'm going ot have the same issue with the lid.

My wife hates that red color. She also fails to realize there is three coats of Stove Bright black underneath it. There will be at least two more coats of the red and then once the stove heats up and the paint cures it'll probably get a little darker.

Few more I failed to post. Figured I'd post them while the secondaries dry.

I think when you get the stove all put together the red body of the stove will look great. Hopefully the wife will like it more then. You are doing a grate job on the rehab.

I think you are doing an excellent job too. You should be very proud of yourself and the stove once its done. Just remember one important thing. When you light the first fire in it; MAKE SURE you have ALL the windows open in the house. All of those layers of paint and polish are are really going to smoke and stink until they are cured. Maybe you might send the better half to visit in In Laws when you light it up. :)

Avoid the Noid...
Fire it outside for a few hours...
A few low wood kindling fires to cure the new castings...
Then a few charcoal, the chunk kind, fires...
Then a real coal fire...

Thank you all. I'm trying to make it look nice. I am proud, I'm also having a lot of fun working on it too.

Yeah, I'm gonna fire-it-up outside. Hopefully I can get it re-assembled this week and this weekend I can pickup a bag or two of coal and get it ready for the house.

I can't wait for this winter and try this thing out. That and tool around with my 4wd truck. My last truck was also 4wd but it didn't work.

Began re-assembly tonight. Here are some pics. Enjoy.

And does anyone know of a good trick to putting those push washers on? I have to get some more because of the two Larry gave me with my new door I ruined both trying to install them. I hate them.
