Coal is available on normal business days. At the AKRR yard operated by Aurora energy services. Phone number is (907)244-3120. The cost is $80/ton. If you have another reason to come down that negates alot of your transportation cost. I would recommend picking up a load anytime you are down there. Being only 120 miles from anchorage the round trip is less then one way to healy.

Awesome! I should be heading down that way some time next month to go fishing. Thanks for the tip man. Looking forward to hauling back a load of coal and 'butt.
was wondering if other Alaskan's have been getting some of this coal... I picked up about 3 tons in September and have been using it, but the problem is the load I have has a good amount of rock in it. Not big rocks, but ones small enough to stick in my grates, causing me to have to shut it down to clean out. Just wondering.
Thank you,
Tony

I've seen a few rocks, very rare, but I get my coal in Healy from North pole gravel, mined by Usibelli just like yours.
I actually was getting quite a bit of clay for awhile, it would dry out and harden in the fire.

Short bus, thanks, yeah I am getting that as well. This load for some reason just has a lot more rock in it. Next time I go to Seward I will have to stop by and let them know. Seward for me is only about 110 mile vs over 200 to go to Healy. Maybe the extra miles are worth it though. I'll have to decide for next year I guess.

Healy is about 250 miles from Anchorage, 65$/ton, only open friday and saturday, and they recomend calling to make sure, the coal dealership in Healy was available when I came to town, I offten wonder what might have been, but I had just gotten out of the gravel mining business in Washington, and didn''t know about running equipment in the cold, and it gets cold in Healy.

Try South Central Coal Sales.
Im not sure if this helps but the quality is MUCH better and the service, amazing. This fellows coal is much cleaner and larger in chunk size. I would recommend SCCS by far. They also do bags, if you are interested. Best coal in the valley for the best price!

Yeah I have called them, but have not purchased coal from them yet. They seem pretty nice. But I am not sure I can justify in my head the 45% increase in price... I guess I have to decide if I can deal with the rocks and clay for $60 less per ton. They would be closer for me that is for sure.

Work is taking me to Seward this week. Figured may as well grab a ton while I'm there. Is it still 80? or did they raise it for the winter?
