Not with nut, you could do it with pea (already been done) and rice. Nut would tear up the blower

I started burning with coal again in early January. Living outside of Scranton, Pa. I go to Agel.
I've been buying bagged nut at $5.50 a bag = $220 a ton.
I was quoted $155 a ton if I pick up or $185 delivered. Good prices for now.

I forgot to state that the bags are 50 lbs.

Is bulk anthracite picked up direct from the mines generally less expensive during the summer months?

thats pretty nice price, is UAE coal similar quality to Blaschak? I know Blaskchak burns decent. :)

As I look back to the 2008/2009 era Superior was getting just as much praise as U.A.E. Harmony, but lately the Superior supporters have gone silent. Did Superior fall off the face of the earth?

It might be interesting if the Eastern PA anthracite old timers with the experience to do so would each individually rank their top 3 (or more) coal suppliers.

Two supplyers here in central NY went up $10. Dennis was $220 and now $230 for Reading, Poso was $230 and now $240 for Blashack. :cry2:

it's not the same anymore, i started using superior in 07......the second to last load i got from there was more like barley than rice, every day i pulled the fines cleanout and got half a bucket of fines......high ash content too.......uae was still 150 a ton 2 weeks ago.....gotta head over there and load the yoda this week.

Living in Western MA, I figured the cost of trucking coal from PA to this neck of the woods will most assuredly go up by fall, so I called my dealer today.

They're still trying to keep up with demand for this heating season. It's been an unusually cold winter around here, plus a TON of snow! So they're limiting orders to 1/2 ton only for rice coal, and it's not their 'usual' supplier, so the quality is less than normal, too.

As expected, the price went UP! I paid $265/ton this past August...now it's $289! I think I'll have to do some quick checking of other suppliers. Assuming gasoline goes to $4.00-$5.00 by next fall (I figure it's quite likely), I'm looking to get my coal NOW rather than 5-6 months from now and pay a higher price.

Four tons of bagged Reading nut coming tomorrow morning, $315/ton delivered. Other dealers here are higher now, they say it is a bad time of year and the price should be lower this summer. One dealer who sells only Blaschak charges more per ton for bulk than for bagged. Go figure.

Just picked up a full skid (2400 lbs) of bagged Blaschaak Pea today $324. I usually burn Nut but they were out. I can burn Pea just as well so no problem.
