Coal Prices 2010-2011?

PostBy: SheepDog68 On: Fri Jul 30, 2010 3:29 pm

I have not seen a thread of prices for this upcoming season, so I thought I would toss out the prices I have seen here in North Central WV at the two dealers that I have stopped at.

3J Trucking/Coal Sales in Newburg, WV has Reading and Kemmel both in bags for $255 a ton.

Fire Places and Pools in Buckhannon WV has Blaschak in bags for $292 a ton.

I also just got a quote from PenCoal for $139 a ton bulk and $198 a ton bagged plus delivery charges to where ever you are. For me it is about 300 miles and they want $36 a ton for delivery.

I will add pricing as I get my quotes back.

You guys jump in with what you are seeing where you are at!!

SD

Little slow getting this thread going this year. Added the poll. I know I keep promising a better method but I've been a little side tracked for the past 6 months.

Maybe this is not the most current since I last bought coal in April. But the price was the same as it was in January from the same company. I bought four tons of Nut coal from People's Coal in Stroudsburg for $210.00 per ton delivered. I still need four more tons of Stove size for the Glenwood. They said the coal comes from the South Tamaqua Pocket. I would like to try some other sources nearby here in Pike County or Monroe County, but; I'm not sure of where there are any other coal yards around here. The people at People's Coal are friendly and are very prompt with their deliveries. In today's World that counts for something, I guess.

My coal guy delivered me 3 tons of nut from the Blaschak mine for $203 a ton + $6 for oil. Riceburner78 and myself took my truck up to blaschack mine, which is about an hour and a half from Denver. He needed about a ton to get him through the upcomming season, and our coal guy has a two ton minimum. So we thought road trip and what better place to go than a coal mine :) . Anyway, picked up at the mine coal was $175 a ton no charge for oil. So for $34 a ton savings not adding in the fuel and time, I will let the coal man bring it, no shoveling he shoots it right in the basement.
Have a great day everyone, Eric

Picked up a ton of rice from Casey-Kassa today, $135. The coal looks good, late last year you could see some shale and a little junk in it, but it looked pretty clean today.
They did say $150/ton as of Sept 1st.

Eagle Ridge Development Group/Muddlety Trading Company in Summersville, West Virginia just gave me a quote of $500 for a large tuck load (between 5 and 6 ton) delivered to my house which is 11 or 12 miles away.

I'll be using it in an old Warm Morning 520. Think that will get me through the winter?

I need to get a chimney kit. Anyone have a suggestion?

Sounds like it's bituminous coal at that price. You want to make sure your stove is built to burn bituminous and not anthracite. Depending on the quality of the bit, your house size and insulation, and the elevation you are at 5-6 ton could be plenty or not enough.
