I am trying to understand the point of this post. It seems to say it would make no difference no matter who was running things owing to the depth of the problem illustrated by the two links you provided.
If I am correct in that assumption then I think your are dead wrong. I believe that a Guliani or Romney would do a great deal toward accomplishing those goals you listed. Obama on the other hand seems to be making things worse.
Contrary to the theme of your links history has shown that a country can recover from conditions worse than what we face in a relatively short time. An example is Germany in 1933. By 1936 it had a far healthier economic climate, not that Herr Hitler was an economic genius but that he had an economic minister who was, Hjalmar Schacht. Of course Schacht got the boot when he objected to the excessive military spending.
