I need to get rid of this big old corn crib of a place - so I am trying to get all the ignored outdoor projects done this season. And I am getting close, but with nine fingers, weather hold ups, work drama, etc; I have fallen a bit behind on my schedule. I hate this time of year - I have lost at least an hour of evening and the skeeters are terrible.
Anyway is about 90 with a humidity similar but I am on the south side - farthest from the street and replacing spalled brick in an unused chimney. Was digging out a new batch about a depth transition and I almost made the stupid mistake of undermining the whole structure - so after wringing out my sweat band I cleared just a corner and repaired it so I can do this hole in stages. It got too dark to snap a result - but there is always tomorrow
Here I am soaking the bricks in cold water to keep the colored mortar from immediately drying to dust.

So how thick is that old stone foundation ???
That transition cap piece from the stone foundation to the brick exterior walls looks very familiar. 1920's era ??

That looks alot like my chimney ... only mine is inside my house in that condition. It's at least 100 yrs old & unlined. Can scrape mortar out with a fingernail.

Those storms passed - again thankfully - to the north. I have just come in for more coffee after setting some cap bricks (concrete pavers) for size transition of the base. The morter needs to set up a bit so I can point the rest in.
The old dead guys had trimed some clay bricks, to allow for the water to run off this area - but I don't have three old bricks in good enough shape to do that. So Ill just go with this hodge-podge and it will blend into the other bad repairs done over the years
I set the paver on the left Thursday night to hold it all up till now - Who would have thought - It Worked
