Well it has been a while since I had tome to get on here but.......................

 whistlenut and maurizziot :band: :rimshot:

And what a day it is....... On this day in 2006 Texas closed the last of the Pig Stand Restaurants which were the inventor of the modern drive in type restaurant. The guys there used to hop up on the running boards of the cars to take their order. Hence the name "carhops." Also on this day, Apollo 12 lifted off to deliver the 3rd and 4th astronauts to step on the moon. And on this day, Lech Walesa was released from prison.

But the big story was the publishing of Moby Dick. Rumor has it that whistlenut was there to receive a signed copy.... :nana:

You 2 also share a birthday with Condy Rice, Claude Monet, Prince Charles, and Sherwood Schwartz, the creator of Gilligan's Island.

But sadly on this day we lost Billie "the kid" Clairborne to senseless "gun violence" and Booker T. Washington

Yes, but I think you're only telling part of the story. Wasn't whistlenut's dissatisfaction with having to import whale oil for heating the main motivation for his invention of coal heating as we know it?

Another day, another round of birthday congratulations......................

 paguy, badlegdave, and Horace :band: :rimshot:

And what a day it is...... on this date the first child was born of English Parents while on the Mayflower in New England waters, PRINCESS Elizabeth weds Philip Mountbatten, the Nuremberg trials began, Garrett Morgan patents the 3 light traffic signal device, President Nixon outlaws DDT, and sadly a series of methane explosions and fire rocked the Consul #9 mine in West Virginia killing 78 workers. The blast so powerful it destroyed the lamphouse where the records of those miners actually working that day were kept. After trying all methods to locate any potential survivors, it was decided to close up the entrance to the mine to cut off any oxygen to the fire. Thereby entombing all 78 miners.

Other people sharing this special day are Dick Smothers, Joe Biden, Robert Kennedy, Dierks Bentley, BO DEREK and for Freetown Fred, Estelle Parsons.

Sadly on this day, in addition to the 78 miners, we also lost Tiny Tim.

Looky here,

 GA Cracker and Canaan coal man :band: :rimshot:

This day also commemorates the day that France scuttled their navy to avoid Germany taking possession of them in WW II. Also on this day in 1973, the Senate confirmed Gerald R. Ford as the new VP after Spiro Agnew resigned. This same day golfer Tiger Woods crashed his SUV into a tree after getting "clubbed" by his model wife, and Gordie Howe scored his 600th goal. And on this day 10 years ago, then President George Bush secretly flew to IRAQ to spend Thanksgiving with the troops.

You also share a birthday with Astronomer and Inventor Anders Celsius (last name ring a bell ?), Bill Nye, the science guy, Jaleel "Erkel" White, Bruce Lee, Jimmi Hendrix, and Caroline Kennedy.

But sadly this day Colonel George Custer massacred a sleepy Cheyenne encampment without checking them first. These were the friendly Cheyenne who even displayed a white flag from their tents. Killed in the raid was their chief, Black Kettle, and many women and children.

Had a few minutes to check in today and gee whiz looky what I found........

 ...Flyer5... :band: :rimshot:

Notable events of this day include the State of New Jersey ratifying the Constitution, the signing of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution abolishing slavery and the Mayflower finally docked in Plymouth Harbor after finding an abandoned Native American village. Thereby creating the first "Massholes." Right Smitty ??

You also share this birthdate with quite a few celebrities. Notably Ty Cobb, Keith Richards, Leonard Maltan, Ron "Tater Salad" White, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Cowboy Troy, Brad Pitt, Stephen Spielberg, Christina Aguilera, and Katie Holmes.

But Sadly on this day we lost cartoonist Joseph Barbera and Chris Farley.

Enjoy the day Dave !!!!!!
