Hi,

I'd like to provide some automation for running my coal stove. Being that i'm fairly new to burning coal (love it btw), I need some direction as to what I will need to purchase. Personally I like tweaking the stove by manually adjusting everything although my wife stays at home with the kids and she's not that much for it. ;)
Could either a rep or someone let me know which unit I would need to purchase in order to automate this stove with a coal-trol thermostat?

Below is pictures of my configuration and how the stove has been installed. Yes, it's a bit dirty for now although with this install, I plan to refinish this space.

Thanks.

Alright, after spending some time reading all the manuals, I understand how the coal-trol unit works.

Question is, do I need the Standard+ or the Advanced +? Will I benefit from using the Advanced+ unit?

I would think Either would work for you, probalby just a few features on the Advanced, but most of us don't use the setbacks, just set it on a certain temp and forget it! It works really well. My Hyfire only had the Rheostat for feed and blowers, now it automatically regulates everything, the feed, blowers, etc...

Depending on if you use your Furnace Blower, you will need an external Relay if you want the Coaltrol to control the blower, you can also put a temp. switch in to control it too. I think the CoalTrol can only handle 4 amp output to a blower, most furnace blowers are higher than that.

Thanks for the info! I didn't really use the furnace blower this year although it might be something I end up using depending on how warm the house stays vs the amount of coal i'm burning.

So whats the main difference between the Standard+ and Advanced+? It would be nice if on the site it would have a comparison doc. Or does it and I'm just blind..

Standard+ vs Advanced+ is basically the thermostat. TS2 vs TS2ES. The TS2ES gives more settings for those of us that like to tweak everything. Both are good but I upgraded my factory installed Keystoker 90 Coal-trol to TS2ES because I could not help myself.

Hi StokerInPA,

First off, we don't really offer the Advanced or Advanced+ anymore. We haven't updated the website yet to reflect that, but so few of them sold compared to the Standard/Standard+ models that we just couldn't justify keeping them going. As it is, we can provide a modified version of the Standard to provide you an interlock circuit and/or the aux output (which were the main features of the Advanced vs the Standard), so when you're ready to order you can call the shop to discuss custom options to the Standard/Standard+.

The difference between the Standard and Standard+ is only the thermostat model. Standard comes with a 2 setpoint thermostat (day and night, same settings used for each day of the week). The Standard+ comes with a thermostat with 4 weekday and 4 weekend setpoints. Otherwise the units are the same.

The Standard or Standard+ will work with your installation. If at some point you want to add the use of a furnace blower with your coal stove, we can discuss options for modifying your Coal-trol Digital Standard or simply adding on an independent temperature limit switch to control the furnace blower.

We encourage you to call us at 315-299-3589 to discuss your installation and how the Standard would be wired in to meet your needs, and then hopefully to order. :)

Sincerely,
Paul
