The steam tractor show I was at two weeks ago had a shingle maker too. Debarked logs cut to the desired length of shingles were clamped in the machine. Then the log was automatically tipped alternately left and right as the circular saw blade cut the shingle. Automatically advanced to the next cut position also. It produced a tapered cross section shingle. Operator held each shingle produced against a rotating rasp to square up the long ends. Quite impressive machine to watch. I didn't see it this year but in past years they then branded the shingles with a hot iron logo. Sold them for a $1 each to raise money for the Mason-Dixon Steam Historical Society, Westminster, MD
